Notice anything different about this Sage1?

It's subtle but I figure someone will notice.

Near the liner the CF looks a little rubbed down. Maybe due to the pic though.

Did you grind down the nub at the start of the ricasso

Bingo. If I have the terminology correct, it's the front of the Choil. I just felt like it stuck down too far and my finger didn't really contact all of it anyways. I removed enough that it doesn't protrude so excessively yet my grip isn't affected at all. I like the look a lot better and figure it's less likely to get in the way of some cutting tasks.

S30V is some hard stuff. I did it on a bench grinder, a little bit at a time and the finish looks as good as any of the other factory surfaces. I'm pretty happy with the Sage1 now.

Isn't that what prevents the blade from shutting too far?

Nope, the part he ground off makes no contact with any other part of the knife, open or closed.

Ah yes, choil would be correct. I never choke up on mine so it might as well be a ricasso for me heh.

Except now when you go to stab something your fingers are going to slide onto the blade :foot::D

It does stick down more than most knives

No I double checked that before starting the grinding. There is also no chance of slippage when stabbing because there is such good jimping on the thumb ramp and choil. It still has a deeper choil than the Caly3 which is my favorite folder. I could grind off a tad more but I'm afraid I'll have a slip up and ding the cutting edge or something so I'll leave it alone.

The Sage is growing on me but I just like the smooth carbon fiber and slightly smaller folded size of the Caly3 CF a little better for carry especially in smaller/tighter pockets.
