Hi guys,

I have been wondering, as I don't often follow the hottest updates and press releases, maybe you can help. Do manufacturers often issue any releases or "warnings" that any of their models will be discontinued in the near future, before that happens? Or do you find it's more of a wake up and find out sort of thing? I am just curious... some now discontinued models from various favorite manufacturers that I wish I had have gotten me thinking recently. Thanks guys.

Spyderco generally posts discontinued knives each year in their forum here and on their own forum.

Usually if you see a knife selling for way less than what it should, or way more than what it should, it's about to be discontinued. There is usually no prior notice, etc.

Various knife dealers, such as Knifecenter.com have sales of discontinued knives every so often.

It is a good idea to keep an eye on all the Internet knife forums, social media and dealer websites to keep track of this when it happens.

Like mentioned above, Spyderco is the only knife company that officially does this. (Kershaw and Zero Tolerance used to do this too, but they no longer have a forum here.)

Kershaw's website lists their current production knives, and if they choose to discontinue one it will be noted in the knife description until the knife is removed from the website, but you'd probably only coincidentally stumble upon that notice. Its not prominent.
