I work at a ski resort, I have quiet a few employees I am responsible for. I do always love when i notice a pocket clip on someone because its just another excuse to bring up a short knife discussion while in the stressful work environment. BUT today was different.....

All was well and normal, the day was going smooth when i needed something no on hand. I asked a warehouse employee if he could track down a hot beverage dispensing machine like at any 7/11 coffee station. He came back 4 minutes later with a new machine in the box with all kinds of fancy features. I looked to him and asked him where the hell he had tracked this down at so quickly. I then went on to ask if he could find small circular pizza trays. He arrived again with brand new merchandise within 5 minutes of me asking him. I am in charge of ordering all equipment and supplies for our needs and i asked him where he had been getting all this stuff because i defiantly never ordered it. So i figured it was all hiding in the extensive warehouse we have.

So anyways when i asked him where he had gotten these things he said (while he was kinda foaming at his mouth) "aghh from my house, i got all kinds of stuff up there....uh agh aghhh ahh." He is a great guy with lots of health issues and he is retired so i dismiss the foaming at the mouth and funny noises that escape his mouth. I asked why he had this stuff at his house and he told me he had a house 2 blocks from the resort he used as storage. But he makes 14$ a hour, how does this guy own multiple house??? He then got into his life story about how he owns 6 houses around the country and his past career he was a navy special forces. then a military contractor, then a bounty hunter.... And i had no idea because nothing showed up like this on his resume. he told me the job was just to keep himself sane and busy. Which really surprised me because he was always my "go to" guy for anything i needed because he could get it for me no matter what. He always took his job so seriously and was proud of being that guy.

After listening to al his crazy stories he dropped his lighter while lighting his cigarette and when he bent over i saw a 1911 handle in a holster under his arm. And he definatly saw me take notice. I bit my tongue because i really don't mind.

I would also assume he might have a hard to get CCW permit for NJ, but who knows.

sorry for the long story but i thought it was pretty interesting. hopefully i didn't waste anyones time with this long read

Some supervisors would panic. But you are smart enough to realize that, assuming he has a CCW permit, that means he has passed a demanding background check which is a good thing to see in an employee.

I think you write well, and that was a pretty good read. Abstract life is quite an interesting topic, and your main character there is, well, quite a character. LOL

A guy with a .45 concealed in NJ? I doubt very highly he is carrying it legally unless he has a job where he transports tons of cash or jewels on a daily basis (and from your story he sounds like he doesn't). I've been trying to get a CCW for years and it is impossible for the average citizen to get one. And it really has nothing to do with a background check in NJ but rather a viable reason. Your background could come back free and clear and endorsed by The Pope and witnessed by God and you will still not get one unless you show just reason that you need to carry a gun on a daily basis.

You should ask him about it sometime, casually and nonchalantly of course. It would be interesting to know if he's got a NJ permit. My brother lives in South Orange and has long given up on ever getting a CCW license. Anyway, I hope you wouldn't nark on the guy if he's carrying unofficially. After all, he is a good employee.

6 houses? Concealed carry in NJ? Brand new merchandise magically appearing? Sounds like he may be part of another "organization". Forgive my skepticism but in my experience, those that have been in spec ops rarely divulge that info. Good story though.

I agree with Edlex. In my experience folks with such "complex" lives are often either lying or delusional.

Personally, I'd be somewhat disconcerted that someone who would come out with such a 'background' story, and whose apparent health issues have him foaming at the mouth and uttering incomprehensible sounds, is carrying a (presumably) loaded 1911 in the work environment.

Need I mention the wholesale warehouse supplies, six owned properties, $14 per hour equation being equally lacking in credulity?

Why would an employee be bringing-in personal items for use by his company? How does a warehouseman come to own commercial-quality equipment, and then be that generous with it?

Since he is a warehouse employee, I'd be curious if company items aren't sitting at his house...
