November Is Hawk Month

Why take them off the list? I mean everything goes in waves. In a month 10 people could want a new hawk since its colder outside and need a pack axe. They are a awesome product. I just don't understand taking down something that could drum up business.

Just put a note up the materials for the hawk are special order. And have to be paid for upfront. And also it adds a little wait time to the order.

Couple of reasons. When I buy steel for the hawks, the smallest piece I can buy will make two hawks. If I only have an order for one, the rest is wasted money, I sure can`t ask for a deposit to cover the cost of material for two. Secondly, I can only get the big pieces of handle material from one of my three suppliers, and micarta is all he carries. Shipping costs the same for one piece of handle material as it does for ten. This is why I`m trying to do a preorder, to get all materials at one time.

As it stands right now, I am very close to not taking orders at all, just make a few knives to post for sale, and see how it goes. The way orders trickle in (lately one or two every couple of weeks) it makes no sense to order handle material one set at a time. Another thing is material prices. Orange G10 doubled in price in the last month, do I raise the price to cover the increase? Should I eliminate some of the handle options so I can get it all from one supplier?

I think a lot of people think that I get paid for anything I make. Not so, being a legal corporation, I get a set paycheck every week (not always, if there is not enough in the corporate account, I don`t get paid at all, and it happens.) I have to pay taxes like everyone else, plus I have to pay unemployment every quarter, even though I can never collect it. I did not start making knives to get rich, but I would like to at least make a living at it. As a hint, my wife works part time at Target, her checks are larger than mine. Now I`m done rambling. :D

Part of the beauty of your company is the ability to order a custom product.

If you need to charge more, charge more!

If you need to carry some stock of materials on hand, then that is part of the business - buy what you need to keep on hand and keep it on hand! Just in time inventory is not cheap to maintain unless you have a large inventory - shipping is what you have to manage per your own description

If I have to pay for the shipping to get you a piece of material that I want on my knife, then tell me and I will pay for it. If you have to order twice as much material for a specific piece like a hawk, then tell te customer why the piece is higher. Offer a deal on the second hawk and put it up in the forum. If I want the piece bad enough, I will pay the price.

It is up to you to make sure you are making profit on your knives.

I hope not to see an end to the hawks but look forward to future hawks being made and having their pictures taken for this at least!

I absolutely agree with this, especially the part in bold.

I can't do it right now (timing :(), but I have a JK Hatchet on my wish list...

This is *possibly* the last chance for anyone who is daring enough to commission a Defensive Battle Hawk, the most evil, despicable piece of 01 to crawl out of the JK shop EVER.

Only two have had the intestinal fortitude to try to co-exist with a DBH at home.

Time for the truly stout to step up to the (email) plate and get in line for the baddest Hawk of them all.

Stats dump:
14" overall length
6 5/8" Super Skeletonized handle
7 1/2" neck to tip of Saber Tooth.
6" head width.
1/4 JK K-Treet 01 Tool Steel
25.9 oz

Features include:

Super-skeletonization for a head-heavy feel and fast action at the business end
005-4.jpg

Rounded edges on the neck to make choking up more comfortable to facilitate using the DBH for fuzz-sticks, notching or even food preparation.

Would you believe it is also a Defensive Battle Spatula? Works great for turning those hard-to-turn filet mignon at the bourgeois camp site.

A large, beefy handle with the "patented" JK-bulge at the end to ensure a firm, comfortable and stable grip for those heavy duty chopping/piercing chores.
DSC_3818.JPG

The Bulge also includes an extra large lanyard hole for a heavy duty wrist thong or lanyard for additional control and confidence when the swinging gets heavy.

The head features a bell-shaped cutting edge for chopping and cutting chores...

....and a double-edged chisel for heavy duty piercing chores (tires, doors, refrigerators, what have you).
DSC_3519.JPG

You can even make change for a quarter with the DBH!

Finally, the JK Saber-tooth pierce-point on the tip of the head is sharpened on all four sides (John loves grinding these out...). The Saber-tooth is added for defensive needs and can add that extra level of slicing action if the DBH had to be used in a defensive action. Pure evil.

The Saber-tooth can also be used for can opening chores and I have found it handy for moving burning wood from your campfire to the cooking fire by stabbing the ST into the log and then transporting the log to the cook-fire. Very handy!!

The DBH is a great tool for the trail, camp or home defense. Mrs. mqqn keeps DBH #1 by her side when I am away from the house, and it provides her with a level of assurance that the DBH will be there for her in the event she needs it.

Mqqn- you might have a future in advertising!

I enjoyed playing with the DBH while at the Michigan gathering. It sure was hard to put it down, it practically begged to be used constantly. A spike hawk with that same handle tempted me on the exchange, but I didn't end up with it. I'd love to be able to order one, but can't swing it. Sad to see them going away.

I remember that - you used the DBH to make your hot-dog stick in fact, yet another of the many chores the DBH can take in stride.

Thanks for the pics Cooper - Good to see #2 out and about.

Just placed an order for one with John!
Hope mine will be the 3rd DBH:)

You are the man!! I am sure you will get #3 - John does them in the order of the order I believe.

It will be VERY interesting to see how you compare your most excellent Kukhri to the DBH - now THAT will be a pair!
