This is one of John's Gems folks. It's one of the best all-around outdoor knives out there, bar none. I've tried a lot of blades in this size and the mud turtle is one that will be with me a very long time. There have been a few passarounds with them.

One from 2017 here

And a more recent one I was involved in here.

Here's a quick link to my review of it

Here's my current one back when it was less used. I think the only way I would sell this one is if I have John make me a new one in burlap micarta to match many of my other JK's, but I may just need to gift this one to my son when that happens.

The story behind the name Mud Turtle

Legend has it that the Potawatomi Indians were attracted to the area which is now Mokena, (my hometown for 65 years), because of a large slough full of fish and turtles. They lived in the area for several years until a draught came that dried up the slough, turning it into a large mud hole, with only the turtles remaining alive. They called the area Mud Turtle, which supposedly in English translates to Mokena. True story? I don`t know but it sounds better than calling it Mud Hole.

I thought it was time to offer something a bit larger than I normally offer, maybe I was wrong?

I'm trying to figure that all out. I will be in touch shortly.

What are the standard handle materials? Also, how many pins does this generally come with?
