Now here's a knife that makes sense!

...u have to take that with a grain of salt in my opinion. that's the exact equivalent of a knife magazine judging one of the best backpacks of the year. it could be completely without merit, with not an incredible amount of expertise in the matter perhaps. just a thought.
 
I like the idea of the firesteel and knife as a unit. However, the down side is if you lose one, you lose the other.

Yeah I agree. I was merely pointing out the results and not actually agreeing with them. The other 2 winners were the Bear Grills plain edge fixed blade and the Tec-X for folding blade.

On the other hand, who's to say one has to be an "expert" to give an opinion? Most hikers and campers probably do not give as much thought to their blades as we do here on Bladeforums and maybe prefer spending more of their hard earned money on shoes, packs, tents and GPS's. I don't really know. :-)
