Check this one out. Zero rating, one picture (90 knives?), vague description and an opening bid that should scare away the riffraff lowballers.

Hah!

Ok, that had me laughing out loud.

Don't pull something like that again. You might make my boss actually notice me, and give me something to do.

Then I wouldn't be able to read BFC all day long.

lol what a dumb@ss...
only person more stupid is if they bid on it...

My guess is that maybe there is a substantial collection. The owner, who probably inherited the knives and only knows that grandpa used to tell him how valuable they are, wants 15 grand. The buyer wants to give him something less. To break the disagreement, he said, Ok, let's put it up on eBay and see if we can get 15 grand. If not, I'll give ya the $5,000 we discussed. It's an auction set up to fail in order to prove that the collection isn't worth $15,000.

Of course, I don't know any specific details, I'm just speculating wildly trying to figure out why anyone would pay to list an auction quite like this.

i'm curious why he doens't add that url to his auction

He did insert the url, but I suspect he doesn't know how to make the link work...
That's a lot of knives, and he has some info on each.
Not my cup 'o tea though...
It will set him back $5.50 for that opening bid.
I would bet that Gollnick is right, or at least close.

Look's like around $2000 - 2500 in knives, if he broke the collection up. Look's like someone's paying to much attention to book values/family legends, then real world prices.

I don't doubt he is serious. In fact I emailed him the www.jbrucevoyles.com link so he could get a reasonable idea what they were worth and suggested a professional appraisal. Frankly, it appears to be a decent knife collection...if you like old Schrade and mainly old Case knives. But I reserve the right to poke a little fun at an auction with one pic, essentially no descriptions and a late (not quite correctly added) link to a mediocre set of pictures from a zero rated seller asking 15,000$ as an opening bid.

On the other hand, it is far from the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen on ebay!

I once saw a half-eaten piece of French toast that was supposedly left behind by one of those boy-band freaks going for well over $1000.

Yes, basing a $15K bid on one shoddy picture is hilarious.

:D
