After much excited hand wringing and spent nervous energy, I finally received my BK-16. And man....it is effing awesome!! I contacted Dex about getting a 16 worked up and after some great communication, we settled on a 16 that was to be rebuilt, Waffle House style: stripped, parkerized, convexed, squared, re-sheathed, and re-handled. Step up, get yourself a plate of that and you get this:

Now, despite much consternation on Dex's part about the parkerizing not taking like he wanted to (something along the lines of his 5 retry's in my book counts as above and beyond the call of duty), I like the looks of the knife. Yeah, it didn't turn out perfect, but who in the hell cares? Unlike the 7 that I was gifted, this is going to be user. Users get beat the hell up. IMO, after it was stripped, I think it looks nice and used before I've even used it. :) It's my knife...shut the hell up! :D

More spectacular BK-16 shots...

One of my initially favorite things about the knife is the way it fits in my hand. While a bit small, it reminds me of my best BRK&T handles that felt great - and for me, feeling great in the hand means lots of use...

I cannot wait to use this knife. Above, among the other things I listed, I used the word "squared." Dex squared the spine so that I could effectively strike a ferro rod - and though I don't have a photo of it in action, know that whatever he did works perfectly!

Finally, the last shot, while grilling some burgers...

Thank you Dex! For my first user Becker, he did a hell of a job - as is obvious that you guys already know! And now after handling this knife for a few hours, I think I get it. Ethan's vision for a great user knife has been realized. These tweeners...wow. Where's my 15?!?!

Wow man!
That looks great! Congrats on a fine blade.
Glad to hear you had a great experience with Dex. He really is a great guy and goes the extra mile.
Thanks for sharing.
Enjoy your new 16!

Everything has been great with purchasing from Dex. Communication was excellent and the final product was, for me, just what I wanted.

A couple of additional photos...I have an ESEE 3 that I really like, but it will now take a backseat to this 16 (and while a 4 may be more in line with the 16, a 3 is all I have!)

Why has the ESEE taken the back seat? Because of this:

While I can order aftermarket scales for the ESEE, it only raises the price that much more than the Becker for a knife that IMO, isn't any better than the 16.

Hey man, that knife looks fantastic! I love the worn look. Badass blade, nice job Dex! Make some liners outta anything plastic, is really easy. You'll need longer hardware though. 3/4" works.
I made these out of tide pods container

Then these are from thrift store find plastic plates

It's crazy how a tiny bit makes a difference. Both are double stacked liners on each side, so 4 liners total.

DEX'y goodness right there! beat that thing like it owes you money!

Ah, I see you're a Weber man too.

I see a Gold smokin' away and a Smokey Joe sitting on a Performer in the back. Is there a WSM lurking just out of frame?

Fourth photo down, top, sorta left and out of focus is a 14.5 with a black cover on it. Cooking/grilling/smoking is an addiction - and while it still is all about the cook and not the cooker, I figured out long ago that for how I wanred to cook, Weber was the was to go.

And you noticed there was no gas grill there, right?!?! A guy ought to lose his man card for cooking with a gas grill!

Hey Wacbzz.......

I would like to thank you for buying a Becker and am also happy that you are enjoying your new Dexified Sixteen...... Always makes me proud when I hear such kind words about one of the "kids"...... Glad yours found a good home......

Very pretty. Are those standard tweener handles and if so, how did you make those valleys/indents?

wacbzz, i feel your pain.

that's a terrible knife, with a terrible treatment, from a terrible man. i hear he soaks knives for days, and heckles them while they suffer.

no more.

send it to me for a proper burial :D

Bladite be a funny dude!

Congrats on an awesome blade from a great guy!!! I recently added a set of G10 scales to my 16 and am really enjoying the new feelz! :)

Looks awesome. Dex strikes again! He is a real craftsman and great communicator.

I enjoyed your pics and narrative. Enjoy!

THANK YOU Ethan for designing and getting built one of the best knives that I have held in my hands. I am thoroughly impressed!

Here is the best part...after I receive the knife, I called Dex because of a note he included, which basically said that he was really disappointed with the way the parkerizing turned out and that he was ordering some more from a different company and when that came in, he was going to do another 16 with the same mods and send that one to me to decide which one I wanted! I called him to basically tell him that I really liked how this 16 turned out and to not do that, and he has insisted that it was his work that was out there and that he wanted it to be right.

Wow. I have NEVER purchased a knife from someone like Dex - and I don't see a reason why I ever will.

Thanks! That's a BK9. Just a couple of round files and some 80 grit.

Thank you for posting your photos and description about adding the liners. I will probably be doing this soon.

it something that's so easy that turns out really cool. Stock hardware will not fit for double liners. have to move up to 3/4". I use the cap nuts to cover the extra screw length. must use the home despot ones tho because the bLowes cap screws are way bigger. I plan on posting a write up on the scales, liners, and hardware later, maybe tonight.

that is super cool for dex to do that. I'm with you tho, I really like the look. it resembles a natural patina and that takes forever to get heh

Very nice; very nice indeed.

You guys are turning this into a Becker porn site for cryin' out loud!:thumbup::thumbup:
