Not the worst problem in the world to have, and certainly would be classified as a 1st world problem, but a problem nonetheless.

While i can and do appreciate "pretty knives" and pretty knives are fun to carry from time to time. I really am more of a salt-of-the-earth type
and i think my favorite knives are definitely starting to reflect that.

the problem is, now i have so many PERFECTLY functional knives, i cant decide which is mine.

1) Wenger Standard Issue
2) Victorinox Farmer
3) Camillus tl-29/electricians knife (thanks to Dan)
4) Case Sodbuster
5) Buck 301
and now
6) Old timer 8OT (thanks to woodrow)

I think you can see a pattern, real working knives, reliable, capable and tough.
I'll get a few pics of the 8OT, which appears to be absolutely perfect and will properly thank Woodrow a little later
but let me say now THANKS!!

for the time being i think i am going to roll with the TL-29 and the 8OT. Both gifts, both special and i betting they gonna handle everything i need a knife for with aplomb!

I never know which knife to carry. It's a tough decision. Lately I reach for my GEC #15 radio knife with ebony covers. It doesn't have all the frills but it's great.

Oh i have alot of knives that are special to me as gifts from folks around here. But i seem to be gravitating towards multi-functional knives. Any knife can cut, but not every knife can do more than just cut, you know what i mean?

besides, having a pretty knife has its place, go to meeting or sunday knives are a thing for a reason :D

yeah the radio jack is an interesting little bugger

Aren't they all yours? Just carry whatever you feel like that day. You are overthinking this.

This!^^^^

I've made the discovery that no matter how much we may want to, we will never become the mythical one knife man. It's just not in our genes, we're the afflicted ones. The accursed. The accumulators. I know that I've tried, but had to face the devil that I'm a blade floozie, and will never be loyal to the one. Maybe the few, but definitely never the one. I will never have one knife that will be mine, but I'm fine with that. It means I'll have several that will be mine.

Depending on what side of the bed I wake up on, my knife mood of the day may change. If I'm going to Little Italy in Baltimore to dine at Sabatino's, I may drop a nice horn handle resolza in my pocket. If I'm going to be working about the house on some projects, my Wenger SI will be in my pocket. It all depends, and I like having a small stable of knives to draw on for my mood and planned events of the day.

It's okay to have a little indulgence now and then.

My solution is to carry more than one bladed tool. I always have the Victorinox Alox Cadet. That gives me a serviceable stainless blade plus a number of other tools. I also have a small Leatherman tool (Squirt P4) which covers small tool areas the Vic does not. Then I have a "for fun" slot which is where my traditional du jour goes, if I feel like carrying one that day.

I agree that you're overthinking it. You have SIX wonderful pocket knives that bring you enjoyment and each has it's special meaning due to it being a gift perhaps, etc.

Now if you had dozens I'd say "Yes you could trim that herd a bit" if you prefer to keep life simple. But SIX is a very nice little number to have IMHO.

Select what suits the day's task or your mood and go. You can swap them mid-day for that matter based on need or intended tasks ahead.

If you have six knives in your rotation and are happy you've arrived at Knife Nirvana my friend! Congrats!

I'd be happy with any of those. But if I had to make a purely emotional decision: hands down a USA-made 8OT. Carried by generations of working men. Easy to sharpen. Holds a very fine edge, a very long time. Love the patina of Schrade's 1095. A full Rc point harder than any current-production 1095. Besides, my grandpa carried one in retirement. :)

Enjoy them all. You aren't married to them. They won't get jealous just because you choose a different one each day.

Why is your Case Small Texas Jack not in your list? Thought you loved that knife.

i DO love the texas jack.
but its a knife, all it can do is look purty and cut

my stockmans have more blade choices (at the expensive of pretty)
my sodbuster cuts just as well but is MUCh more durable
my electrician's knife can screw drive, pry etc etc
my wenger SI can do even more than them

*shrugs* just me overthinking things as you say :p

The "overthinking it" comment is probably true, Ryan. I sometimes look at it this way: I've got half a dozen hats, 20+ shirts, 10 pairs of pants, but do I ever agonize over which hat or shirt or pants to wear each day, or try to choose one of each that I'll wear all the time? No, but I sometimes have a tendency to treat my knives that way. Sometimes I think something's wrong with that picture!

For some reason, jackknife's comment reminded me of a popular song from when I was a lad (Stephen Stills, I think):
"If you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with."
I never bought that as a viable approach to romantic entanglements, but it's not a bad philosophy with regard to knives:D

Not a problem.

My pocket inventory as we speak:
Leatherman Micra
Vic Floral (the Swiss Sodbuster Jr.)
Vic Alox Mini-Champ (worry stone, and cool factor)
Vic Explorer Plus (because you never know...)

And if I need one for food prep, I will drop an Opinel Garden Knife in a cargo pocket.

Why choose just one?

Winter time is coming. More pockets with your coats. I'm going to carry my entire collection with me...

;)

This is something I've worried about for some time. I have borderline OCD ;). I know it's insane to worry about it, but I do.
