Now I have to get one

After alot of reading and more reading, I have decided that I need to get an HI knife and trying to decide which one to get. I would like to support a fine company like this that stands behind their product. I am leaning toward the AK or the M43, I just need to make up my mind and get one that I feel would be right for me and decide on what length. Thanks to all.

Welcome newcomer. If you've spent any time on this forum, you'll know that the question of "first khuk" is more or less useless.
I once posted this conundrum, foolishly thinking it'd be my "only one."
And four khuks later, I'm waiting on my fifth, a custom knife.
I have an M43. The handle and chiruwa style tang is all a bit much for my hands, which are a bit small for a man of 6'2," and for that reason I'm inclined to recommend an ang khola.
Really, though, the two bullet points are 1) warm welcome and 2) you're going to get both within the next couple months, whether you can afford it or not. These things are hand forged crack.

edit: I don't own an ang khola myself, but my other two full size khuks both have the partial tang. The feel of my 16.5 WWII makes me suspect the ang khola is a lively and handy khuk in the hand at a 15" length.

I think the only time any of us exhibit self control is the threat of having electricity or water shut off. And only then because without lights we can't stare at the beautiful khuks. ;)

You're not kidding. I bought my third before my first arrived. Within my first two months I spent over a grand on HI knives. Only the Busse bug has bit me that hard. I even gave away my RC-3 because it never got used anymore.

What do you want to DO with it?
Heavy work (chop hardwoods > 3" diameter regularly) -- 18"+ CAK (Chiruwa Ang Khola)
Medium work (mostly softwood chopping, hardwoods < 3" diameter, on a regular basis) -- 18" WWII
Light work -- 17"+ Chitlangi
Very light (machete) work -- 20"+ Sirupate or Kobra

Really the WWII is right in the middle of the kukri line and capabilities, so I'd go for it first, and you can see if you want to go up or down for your next. That is, unless you have one that's "calling your name", in which case, get it first, because you'll get it later anyway, and your hunch might be dead on.

At 6' 8" and about 325lbs I think I need to go BIG. Chiruwa Ang Khola or one of many others. Thanks for all the responses.

Started with the 15" AK myself.

Then a 25" Kobra, a Bilton, a 19" Samsher, and now a 18.5" Bonecutter. :D

If you're lucky and have your research taken care of, your first khuk will do everything you want it to do. If you end up like the rest of us though, you'll find new tasks for different models, or just plain succumb to the aesthetic of a certain style. In either event, either you or the kamis or both stand to benefit.

Being that big, I'll recommend my first: a 20" CAK.

Has plenty of grip for big hands, plenty of blade and weight to do some serious work, and with a good edge, I got it so it will cut even light vegetation like a machete, yet still fell trees. Big guy like you should have no trouble swinging it.

What about that 40" GRS? That might also be a good pick ;)
I think I'd be all about the 20" CAK, too, though, were I proportioned to such Paul Bunyan-esque generosities. Seconding that knife.

Thanks everyone. I'll look into the 20" CAK. Thanks again and I can't help being BIG. Not fat, just big. I cannot wait to see how big my kids get. 6yr old daughter & 7 month old boy. Both are off the charts.

The 20" CAK would probably be a good match for you. I'm 6'5" tall and 190 pounds and can handle even bigger Khukuris. Used to have a 25" AK that weighed in at 5 pounds. Don't think you should start there but it's definantly something to work up to. ;)
