A bunch of the knife makers suggested I start importing other types of wood. One of the ones mentioned was Koa. There was a box waiting for me at the post office today. This is what was inside.

I picked out the 3 pieces I liked best and started sanding.

These are the blocks I cut from the 3 pieces above.

The wood looks even better than the photos.
When I asked the people I got the wood from if this should be called exhibition grade. The answer I got back was, "we just call it Best Koa".

meh, about average.

I'd kill to have that on a Ukulele ;)

I've got someone I was thinking about getting whacked.
What dimensions do you need for a Ukelele? No promises but I might be able to get you a piece with my next order. Looks like it will be later this week.

I listed the blocks for sale in the supplies forum.

Very nice. But if you think that is wild, you should see what an entire yacht interior paneled in that stuff looks like!!!:D

8inch by 12.... or 4inch by 6 if it's a plank...
about an inch thick or more...

It's hard to get decent Koa that does not cost an arm and a leg.... I'll send you an email I have an idea but it's pretty out there. :)

Before you send the email, I don't really need you to kill someone.
