hi
two years ago a buy the first "knife" to my son, a knife made in spain the steel is 420. we take a lot of time in outdoor many camping in summer and a lot of bushcraft week-end in the forest near my home, sleeping under a tarp making fire ..... I think that is a good school to learn the elementary gestures to survival

for christmas i buy to him a real outdoor knife it's a izula. i think it's a good little blade for his little hand and enough lightweight. he love blade I'm sure he will be very happy and me too

Great post and photos, Jean! Mike will be shipping those RAT packs soon!

That's awesome. I wish my dad took me camping and stuff when I was little, haha. I know he's gonna love the Izula.

Get the RC-3 for the boy. He will be growing so fast that if it is a little big now, it will be perfect very soon. He will not worry about the weight, trust me. Your problem will be when you want to borrow it and he tells you to get your own! Hell... get him the Izula as well just because you love him and he "needs" great tools.

That's great that your son loves to get out to do some camping. It's always a good thing for them to learn at an early age. I'm sure he'll love the Izula. I also think that an RC-3 would be great for him also since it will give him a chance to grow into it. Either way he'll be happy! Thanks for the pics.

Wonderful pictures Jean... and what a great time to get your son involved with survival! My 13 year old and I don't get out to the woods as much as we would like to, but he loves using my Izula and RC-3, and learning to build traps and make fires and such. He doesn't know it but he has an RC-3 coming for Xmas this year :)

Get out as often as you can with your boy, the time goes by far too fast!

I vote for the Izula over the RC-3. It seems a better fit for smaller hands right now, and he will be able to use it forever. The shorter blade is also handier, especially for someone smaller. Because it is lighter, it will be easier to carry with other gear.

It would suck for him to have a knife that is too big for him, especially when it is what he is doing right now that is helping earn him the knife.

Excellente!

Si es tiempo, y una Izula es perfecto para el.

Yo se que el va estar contento.

Muy buena compara hermano!

Jean - I think the Izula is a great choice. I am giving both of my sons - 10 and 8 - an Izula for Christmas. They have used my Izula and it fits great in their hands. I think its a great bush knife for a child this age. I'm sure your son will love it.

I would get the Izula first, but the RC3 is awesome as well. However, I use my Izula everyday

Thanks for sharing with us :)

Awesome to get the kids involved. Getting my daughter a small go/camp bag for Christmas hope she digs it.

plus he can play with paracord, wrapping it - giving it another look in just a few minutes and even though he might put it away for a while when he is a little bit taller (and probably through puberty) he will most likely use it during his whole life.
