I just bought the Vanguard web special in ATS-34 with the thought in mind to make it my new hunting knife. Now I am questioning myself and thinking of getting one in 420 as a user. Any reason I should not use this knife?

No, just get another ATS-34 as a backup and use the one you have. At $40. how can you go wrong?

Pretty sure thats exactly what I'm gonna do, provided they are available in a couple weeks when I can afford another one.

Use It. Buck is very likely to produce Vanguards in premium steel for the forseeable future so I doubt that knife is going to be collectable. Course, ya never know so I bought two this morning!! :) Really I just bought one to use and one to gift to my brother. If you buy another, it should be because it's an incredible price!!!

Std, I agree w/ Flat . Use it and enjoy it as they clean up easy and its a good steel which you'll like . DM

My ATS-34 vanguard came yesterday along with a kalinga pro in S30V. Two very different knives, but both very nice. I'm pleased with both.

The vanguard has a nice traditional weight, feel and blade shape. That rubber handle will come in handy in rainy and snowy situations. For the price it is a steal (also a steel)!

The kalinga... a little more exotic and elegant looking. Nice one-hand opening action.
