Now that I have owned my GEC knife for a couple of months.

I have to admit that I like my GEC folder as much as my Sebenza and I REALLY like my Sebenza.
I am not a big traditional knife collector but I am digging this GEC.

Thank you everyone for answering all of my questions.

It's not an either/or proposition. I prefer slipjoints, but I like knives of all types. Balisongs, bowies, khukuris, lockbacks, modern folders, and puukkos -- I'll take a few dozen of each please!

Glad you like your GEC. Which one did you get?

I got the one with ebony wood for handle scales.

A model 73 with only a single blade. I am quite partial to single blade knives.
Here are a couple of photos

I agree, it's not an either or proposition. I like both, currently I only own trad knives, but I might buy another modern eventually in the future. Carry what moves and speaks to you, whatever it is. That's my philosophy.

Depending on the day's plans I'll still sometimes carry a modern w/clip to supplement my usual GEC traditional. They all have their place and niche in which they excel.

I do have one complaint with my model 73 and that is the blade edge gets a ding even if I close the knife gently. I know this will sharpen out, in fact it is almost gone now. I am terribly impressed with the fit and finish of this knife.

Easyrider,
I fought myself to not like that exact same #73. The kick needed filed down to keep the tip flush and I thought it was too hard to open. I sent it back to GEC and they fixed the hard pull. The fit and finish is terrific like you said and I could easily see that knife doing anything I want or need.

And in case nobody has warned you... They do tend to grow on you, so this may not be your last. There's just something endearing about a classic old-fashioned pocket knife. :)

2 months and you have resisted the temptation of another one? You Sir are an oak.

I bought my first GEC and carried it in my pocket along with my Benchmade clipped to my pocket. One day, I forgot one knife and went out with only the GEC. Now, I rarely carry anything but a traditional folder.

However, I do have to admit the number of slipjoints has increased.

Indeed. Perhaps none has yet called to him? It took me over three years before I was tempted by another GEC.

I hear ya. I think you should call it -the acorn- now I know why some GECs have that acorn shield.:D
