This was the first temple in Bangkok, old section, that Pala, Yangdu and I went to for puja and a beautiful little wat it was. Loved it.

When I looked at these very handsome and good sized tusks I could not help but think of how many wonderful khukuri handles could be made from them. Then I had to do extra puja for this (thought, word, deed!)and ask all the elephant gods of Thailand for forgiveness.

I saw a temple like this many years ago and marvelled at it then. Wonder if it's the same one. Quite amazing.

A fantastic shot of a beautiful (and very colorful) temple. And I would have to agree, those are some HUGE tusks. Can you imagine having those as your bedposts? Of course, I would happily settle for replicas. I wouldn't get much sleep knowing some poacher killed this magnificent animal just for his tusks. Man, I shouldn't let my mind wander like this. It's to little to be wandering on its own.

I once ran across a great pair of tusks in an Indian temple. The temple was large, and empty. As I walked down one of the long, deserted corridors, I came upon a bull elephant manacled to a chain in the floor. Very large, very real, very alive, and very close.

One of the memorable but incomprehensible moments in my life.

John, this little temple is not so far (within line of sight) of the Temple of the Emerald Buddha -- if you were wandering on R& R you could have stumbled across it easily. Emerald Buddha Wat is huge and always crowded. This little place had no tourists and was very peaceful -- and holy, I thought.

Nice story, Howard. Elephants, bless them, do command a degree of respect do they not?
