I'm borrowing this picture from another forum...

Apparently there is currently someone importing these knives. The rope shield says Rite Edge...the etch/stamping says "Built Tough"... I believe. The knife was purchased at a show in Las Vegas.

Nothing like knocking off a knockoff... :( OK, OK, you know what I mean though.

This is what happens when you have a product made in a foreign country that has a history of not respecting copyrights or trademarks. I saw the same thing a long time ago when I was looking at Grizzly power tools, which for the most part have been made in China. The very same tool, maybe painted a different color with a different trade name, would be sold at places like Harbor Freight at deeply discounted prices. When the Chinese have the tooling and the capacity to make more of an item than what's contracted for, this is what you get.

Taylor is, (in the words of Wm. Shakespeare), "hoisted on his own petard."
:D (we actually need a smilie with a single tear rolling down it's cheek)

That's a little bit funny. Hopefully they can significantly undercut the Taylor prices and get into some catalogs. What comes around...

Wonder if SMKW will stock those?

I'll tell you what's funny, I have a one-of-a-kind S&W HRT folding knife. This model was designed by Darrel Ralph, but the knife I have is left-handed; the belt clip and liner lock are on the opposite side from the regular production knife and the scales are rainbow titanium, not the rubber or G10 scales found on the production knife. S&W knives are now made by Taylor Brands LLC, and when I contacted Taylor for info on how this particular knife came into being, Stewart Taylor immediately wrote back and demanded to know who I bought the knife from because he was going to take action against whoever was counterfeiting his product.

I mentioned about the 150th Anniversary Smith and Wesson knife I bought before...but it still steams me that Mr. Taylor put no country of origin anywhere on the packaging (Commemorative tin...clear plastic wrap)...only a tiny ROC on the shield. Not good marketing, IMO, just deceptive.

I bet a dollar that those knockoffs-of-knockoffs are made in the exact same factory. Maybe they should be refered to as "Back Door Specials" - unload the Taylors out the east door and the Rite Edge knives out the west door.

OT, but sort-of relevent: Anyone see the latest SMKW catalog? It seems that a bunch of the Rigid Old Timers (brown delrin "Executives") are being discontinued. Maybe the market for Old Timer Knockoffs is tightening?

Best Wishes,
-Bob
