Thanks for getting me in trouble everybody!!!!! If you remember, I posted up a week or so ago asking for fixed blade recommendations. I implicitly said that I wanted a knife with a blade no shorter than 4", and it had to be in the $150.00 range. Then all of you starting yelling Dozier over and over and over and over
It was like some sort of cult chant from a horror movie. Mesmerizing it was.
I took a week to think about it and decided that I could live with a smaller blade as long as the handle wasnt too short. Short handles on fixed blades make me crazy. I did a little research the night before last, and figured that the Dozier K4 Straight Hunter would fit the bill quite nicely. My wife even liked the fact that Id be sticking to my $150.00 price tag.
I just happened to stop at a local gun shop yesterday, as my father-in-law asked me to find him the same sized fixed blade. Hes a real Marbles fan from way back. The shop had a Marbles Woodcraft in stag for a discounted price, just because there were a couple scratches in the sheath. So I picked him up the Marbles, really wanting it for myself. My wife told me that Id made up my mind on a Dozier and that the gorgeous (and perfectly ground) Marbles would be given to her father. This really bit me in the butt. Im also a Marbles fan, and many of may know how crazy I am about stag. I live for stag. Ive been shopping for my new knife to use in the Adirondacks, along with my stag Bulldog canoe slipjoint and stag handled Buck 110. I dont have anything against Dozier micarta, but I have this natural outdoor theme going for myself. Anyways, the wife insists that her father gets the stag Marbles.
So I call up Dozier knives today, and talk to Bobs especially helpful and kind wife, Linda. I ask her if they have any K4s in stock. She says no at first, but then goes in back to check anyway. Well she came back and bombed me with a nuclear sized selling attack. She does have one K4, but with stag handles. I almost fell out my chair!!!!! It was as if the planets had come into alignment!!!!! I heard an angelic voice from above telling at me to buy that knife!!!! That delicate balance of karma and luck in the world would utterly collapse on itself if I did not get this knife.
So I bought it. I had no choice. The fate of the world as we know it was at stake. The planet earth would have slipped out of orbit and crashed into the sun if I did not do what fate had thrown before me. So I now have a Dozier on the way. Its smaller than I wanted. Its also $100.00 more than I wanted to pay. And its all your fault!!!! You hypnotized me with that darned Dozier chanting!!!!
Thats the story Im going to tell the wife. At least Ill be putting that gorgeous Dozier to work when she kicks me out of the house and makes me sleep in the woods.
Anyways, thanks for all the great help and advice. You gave me a push in just the right direction, and I got a more perfect knife than I could have dreamt of. The knife will arrive on Saturday most likely. Thatll give me time to build a lean-to before the wife sees the credit card bill.
