I'll start a new thread on this topic, I found what I was looking for....
As background, Alameda was asking about sharpening in this earlier thread:

First off, as an important part of "the method" I initially make good use one of those cheap $5 plastic thingies you drag across the blade, mine is made by Smith's and is yellow in color. It has carbide cutters, you know the type.
I clamp it into the vise and, using lots of downward pressure, drag the blade across the cutters. I repeat this over and over until I can feel that the entire edge is being cut and re-shaped. I usually get lots of chips !!
Then I use a strop made from a mousepad and leather, onto which I apply micro-fine green honing compound.
Honing Compound, go here and find Code: MS-GREENHN

MS-GREENHN
OK, that's "the method"..... quick and easy.
Here's the long thread I was looking for, it's 2 years old. Here is the reference:
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=286222
I first get into the discussion on Page 3 (post # 48) with a few posts on Page 3, and then more on to Page 4.
The entire thread is great read about the topic of sharpening.
Just this past weekend I used "the method" to restore razor edges to 2 very old and very rusty and very beatup Kabar's. Both now have razor edges and I have the bald forearms to prove it.
Enjoy,
Carl
