This One-of-a-Kind Code 4 folding knife was hand engraved for the NRA 2014 annual show! Over 1000 people signed up at the booth and once the winner was selected I engraved his initials to finish up the job! Of course the winner's first name is Elvis!

Man I wish I could do something like that. Nice work, as always.

If you don't mind, for someone who wants to just try out engraving, what do you recommend? Do you hand engrave? Or do you use an engraving machine?

Thank you all for the nice comments. Yo Mama, I hand engrave the knives mounted to a rotating vise under a microscope. I learned hand engraving by taking classes from two master engravers... Sam Alfano and Ray Cover. It really takes a lot of patience and frankly it is not easy, especially when you first start out. You can also start with inexpensive hammer and chisel type tools but the newer pneumatic tools make things a bit faster and easier to learn.

Here is a link to a youtube video showing how I engrave these knives...

Hope that helps to answer your question!

Hey David,

Thanks for the info! I have a kid on the way, but after I'm thinkin of hitting the garage more often. It's very nice of you to share your insight, and information. I really like your work, and definately think it's an artform. Take care.

Very nice job on the initials. You mentioned that the winner's first name is Elvis. I notice that his last name begins with P. I wonder;)

Fantastic work, talk about making something special and rimless out of something modern and mass produced.

Thanks again for the nice compliments and yes, it appears that Elvis is alive and well and sporting a new blade :)

Such skill, is difficult to fathom the level of patience and practice to get to that level of mastery.
