NRA Knives 12400 Steigerwalt?

Well well well... I just handled this knife in the local True Value today and wasd QUITE SUPPRISED at its quality... I thuought it would be a Kershaw made NRA knife, but was very pleased to see that good ol' "USA" on the blade! It seems like a GREAT knife with good overall quality. I will be getting one SOON!!!

i just received one.
I like the blade, and the handle is quite "hand-friendly" (it's G-10)... but... i have never seen a knive so dull "Out of the box".
I don't think i could cut butter with it:eek:

There 's nothing that a good diamond stone could'nt cure !:D
I received in the same parcel a small D2 falkniven, and there is a world in between in term of sharpness.

I know this not a folder, but I just recieved a NRA outdoors 12500 osborne fixed blade.Wow is it sharp.I think it's made by Benchmade,it has 440c steel. The only thing I don't like is the NRA logo on the blade .I am not down on the NRA (I'm a life member)nice hunting knife.

From the picture I see grind is very aggressive- good. The thumbstud doesn't look as easy to open. I see it as bridging a gap between traditional and modern with the geometry of the slipjoints, and more convience and security all without the tactical look.

I have the smaller version. The scales are micarta and the blade is 440C. I paid $22 for it but I think it was an error because I went back to the same site a few weeks later and it was almost twice as much.

The 12400 is also micarta handles and 440c steel.Made in USA.Mine was unbelievely sharp out of the box.I ca'nt really explain how the springless lock works,I think the mid-lock may be attached to the liners giving it the resistance it needs. It seems to work fine. This is a great folder for the money. The only thing I don't like is the thumb stud. Its got a sort of rectangular shape and if you're one of those guys like me who likes to constantly open & close your folder while watching TV or reading its not the most comfortable thumb stud.

I have both 12400 and 12410 (smaller one). Micarta handle, 440C blade. Made by Benchmade.
My 12400's blade was sharp out of box. The lock is easy to operate. Handle's quite comfortable.
The thumbstud is one drawback. As others pointed out, it's not easy to use and is uncomfortable. It's not ambidextrous either. It is fixed for right hand use. I think I can move it to the other side to open with left hand. (I haven't tried yet)

p.s. When I see the blade, I think "it'd be good for gutting some fish". I don't know why, but I just think of fishing when I see this knife. :)

are you sure all models are micarta handle?
mine really looks like G-10, it's has'nt got the "polished" look of micarta.
Same feeling than with the handle of the spydie UKpenknife (definitivelly not same G10 than BM710).
i agree about the thumbstud, quite unconfortable.
I have done a bit of sharpening last night, not marvellous...
I think i am gonna ask some professionnals to have a look at it...:(

When i see that knife... i think about lunch, strange is'nt it?:D

I finally got the 12400 yesterday. I had owned the smaller version before, and it is a great small knife, but the larger size is perfect for my taste. I love knives with a blade around 3 1/4", to me that is big enough for all around use, but not so big that it looks like I have a sword in my pocket, especially if it is a slim knife like the 12400 or the BM530. I sliced up some cardboard like it was nothing. D2 is awesome steel!:D I also love the linen micarta scales. To me, scales that are easy to grip, but are also resistant to showing scratches are perfect, and the scales on the 12400 are ideal on both counts. Since the knife can be had for under $60, I think it is on par with the Spyderco Native as a bang for the buck American made knife.

I just ordered one from New graham after reading all of y'alls post . Sounds like a good size knife for EDC. I prefer blade size 3 to 3.4 inches. Thanks for info gentlemen. Best regards.
