I was doing my usual round of sharpen and cleaning for my collection, but i noticed that the blade of my NRG 2 was discolored....not rusted per say as it looked like flush with the blade and not a deposit. ill try to get pics posted this weekend, but i was hoping others could shed some light on this in case i need to send it out to kershaw for them to take a peak.

thanks,

matt

Was it in one particular place where something might have gotten on the blade previously and not been fully cleaned off, like near the pivot/under the liner, or are you talking about the whole blade showing discoloration?

it was both sides of the blade towards the tip, about a knuckles length away and the size of a nickel but an irregular shape

I have had bead blasted 13C26 spot on me. It seems like every now and again I will get a blade that I can't keep clean (but it probably has as much to do with my body chemistry as anything). I'm with everyone else on this one if you get a chance get some pics. It seems that you have piqued everyone's curiosity. As far as it all goes I am sure that Kershaw would be happy to fix the problem for you. Plus, I am curious to hear what Tim's answer is. I rarely fully understand his answers (because I'm not too technically inclined) but it is nice to know that someone has it all dialed in.

i will try to get some decent ones of them this weekend and send em to your email tim,

work this week has been murder and i havent been able to find the time to light the spots correctly.

thanks again for the interest and quick responses, thats why i love it here

so pics are sent to tim, unfortunately they didn't come out as well as i had hoped. i will try again soon with a newer camera.

I'm forwarding on these pictures... almost looks like some minor oxidation or something???? interesting

OE, is that your knife and are you seeing the same discolorations? Or are these pics you got from SladeGT40?

...runs to gun safe to check...

The swept pattern created looks like it cut into something corrosive?? maybe??

I'm not saying you did, but that's what it looks like.

Thanks for posting the pics OE.

Honestly only thing the NRG2 has cut into is boxes and the occasional steak (after a thorough cleaning).

i thought the same thing at first, but i cleaned and cleaned and after i was done, the coloration was still there, but not textured (like oxidation). so i thought i'd get the bladeforums treatment for it.

Tim wrote back today asking to send it off to engineering, and he sent off a replacement (and a factory second JYD.....i love kershaw).

So all should be well,

Thanks for all the feedback guys,

Matt

I'll be damned, I had an S30V blade (handmade and Bos heat treated) with a belt finish get stains similar to that after cutting a steak. I cleaned the knife immediately after the meal but the stains stayed. Didn't matter much to me since it's a user blade but I was surprised nonetheless.
