(NSFW) Knife Safety Awareness! I Got Bit..

Hey brothers! Today I learned a harsh lesson in the blade hobby that we all know and love. I have relatively limited experience with knives, generously 10 years worth, and made a pretty rookie handling mistake (many of you were probably involved with knives before I was born). I learned three lessons today... #1 We ALL can be tools at one time or another, sometimes stuff doesn't always happen to the other guy. #2 Always practice good safety techniques , I always thought I did but rookie mistakes can happen to anyone. #3 Don't mess with a hair shaving ESEE 5. Thanks brothers, I hope you all have a better Friday 13th than I did.

It happens! Heal up and lesson learned. ..

I've bit myself too, but not as bad as you, I learned from it!

Just how did you manage this? just drawing the blade while holding the sheath,
Cool pics by the way, I wish I had the forsight to take pictures when I stuck a buck119 into my knee.
But your Right you can't become complacent no matter how long you've been handling blades.

Sucks to see you got bit by your blade. Hope your hand heals up fast.

On a side note, I would have dropped maybe two more sutures in that laceration. Also, about a week after the sutures are removed, you can apply a light amount on sunscreen to help reduce a visible scar.

I asked the the nurse practitioner about that but she said she was trying to avoid the "rail road" look and it would heal up quicker. I have no experience so I just let her do her job. I appreciate your concern man, thanks for the tip.

Well, I guess it was a combination of a sharp knife and improperly holding the sheath.. Thanks man, those would have been some priceless pictures.

I cut myself exactly the same way about a year ago. Mine took eight stitches, but healed up nice. Just a thin line now, you really have to look for it. Looks like yours could have used a few more stitches to hold it together better...

Freshly sharpened Kershaw Leek + sleep deprivation + "hanging hair test" + just a dash of stupidity = near loss of a finger tip

I'll post pics when I can get to my computer in the am. You definitely could have used a few more stitches. Superglue is a decent alternative. Very similar to the Surgi-Seal we use on CCU.

'Tis but a scratch! (Kudos if you get the reference)

Definitely one of the least pleasant places to get a cut. Luckily it looks like it was just a flesh wound (I didn't intend this reference), and the cut is clean so it should heal up nicely. Just keep it clean and make sure to not use that hand as much as possible. To shower, you can put a latex glove on it and tightly duct tape the wrist to prevent water leakage. Hand injuries are terribly inconvenient, but normally not a major issue. Best of luck on your recovery.

"Oh, you're going to run away are you?" Hahaha Greatest comedy ever starring "The knights that say Neat"

Yikes! Buying/Collecting/Drinking Whiskey-Whisky is another one of my other Hobbies. I MUST stop combining these two hobbies before I loose something!
