NuBee Help Finding Knife...

I have kitchen knives of some quality, however I am new to folding knives and want to find some nice ones to start with. Although I've been using stones to sharpen my kitchen knives, I am also new to a Wicked Edge System, so keep that in mind.
I'm looking for general purpose folding knives in the $40 to $60 range, no thumb stud, with an edge contour that won't be a challenge for my WE and my nubee techniques.
Thanks for your help and I'm excited to get started on my new obsession!

Very cool! Thank you. I forgot to say, no thumb stud please, but I guess you guys already knew that it wouldn't go well with the WE, unless I removed the TS.
Oh..also, where's a good place to purchase these from? Guess I could go to Amazon, but if you guys have a better source, that would be great!

Brands in that price range I'd look at;
Buck (the Vantage comes to mind, or a 110),
Kizlyar Supreme, Ute has no studs andsome others use a disk?
Maybe a Stedemon or even a Boker+...

Case or Rough Rider classics?
Victorinox (Swiss Army knives)

They're out there.

I mean there a bunch of classics that price range. Buck 110 and 112. A bunch of patterns of traditional slipjoints from Case. You could probably get 3-4 Opinels for that same price to practice on. If you're interested in Opinel, you might also want to look at MAM, Mercator, Higonokami.

Of course, Spyderco is known for the SPydie hole, rather than thumb studs, so you can pretty safely go with anything from Spyderco or Byrd in that price range.

My top guys I'd buy from are DLTtrading,TheKnifeConenction (which has free shipping and no minimum price at the moment), and BladeHQ.

I've had phenomenal experience with all. Don't buy from Amazon, and please keep in mind that they are not a supporting dealer here, so if you price shop, don't discuss their prices here...

CRKT has some nice designs in that price range. I have enjoyed owning the Deviation.

So how is that tanto going to not "be a challenge for my WE and my nubee techniques." o_O

Welcome, N NorCalQ !

The Delica mentioned would be a great choice....it does not have a challenging edge contour (unlike that that wacky CRKT thing).

let me toss in an offbeat choice...the Svord Peasant. Its about 15-20 buck worth of easy to sharpen carbon steel with no thumb stud and a very traditional blade profile. Forgiving knife to mess with.

Tanto blades are easy to sharpen, you just have to adjust the grip.

I have used BladeHQ and DLT and have found both to be very good. Amazon is too hit or miss for me.

The Spyderco Delica with full flat grind in VG-10 would be superb for WE and budding sharpening skills.

I use One Stop Knife Shop. Kevin is as personable as they get. "Laid back, but helpful" you might say. ;)

Grab a case trapper. There's one with a wharncliff blade and a clip point. Small that you will always carry. Nice bone handle and decent steel. Doesn't get those wierd looks from people when using.

Spyderco Tenacious is a decent budget Chinese knife. It has to be sharpened a little more often than higher end knifes but is easier to get sharp with a sharp maker
I've got this one on my must-have list, for sure.

Go look at CollectorKnives, they are a supporting member here. I just ordered a Masserin Plow Sodbuster in D2 steel for 52.00. If you're looking at frame locks, Kershaw has been offering some sweet knives in that price range.I just picked up a bareknuckle and it is a sweet knife. It's a little north of your price range.

My wife grabbed a Kershaw Leek that she has been enjoying since 2012, I carry out the blade maintenece (9 times out of 10) and it's a solid little knife. Another tried-and-true option.

A. G. Russell K-31 in VG-10 or even AUS8, if you want to save a few bucks.

Buck Vantage is also very good. I have a small one and a big one on the way. They fill the hand better than a lot of pocket clip knives these days. (but are not as thin in/on the pocket)

Kershaw Chill, I've really been happy with. Very flippy and fun to play with. Slim in the pocket, and designed by a real knife guy: R. J. Martin.

Delica is a fine choice, but you can't get a new one for $40-60. It'd have to be used.
