Hey Jerry & Andy, how about starting a reserve list for the folders when they become available? Yeah, ok-we don't know what they look like but they're a folder and better yet they're a Busse!!!!!!!!!so more the reason to have one.

We already have over 350 orders for a knife that no one outside of our shop has seen. The only public mention of this project was once before on this forum.

Yes, it is a folder. Yes, it is a Busse and yes, it will be the strongest lock known to man or mammon! INFI blade, ultra strong, and initial prototypes indicate that it may weigh less than 15 pounds. Of course, it is a Busse so that cannot be confirmed as of this point.

Yours in folders that don't unless you want them to,

Jerry Busse

Sounds pretty darn cool, Jerry.
The one other picky thing: how does it do with "gunk"? Have you tested it to make sure
that whatever crud it may pick up over a year or so in the jungle isn't going to affect the opening or closing of the knife?
(Or is that still a trade secret?)

I am REALLY looking forward to this.

We haven't performed any gunk tests. . . yet, but we will. I suspect that it will fare pretty well. We will update you guys as we progress. Thanks for your interest.

Jerry Busse

I might be offending a lot of people, but here is my suggestion! A Reeve/Busse venture!!! O: Chris can make the handle (sebenza) while Jerry grinds the infi drop point blade! That would be a knife that represented my two all time favorite custom makers!!! Just thinking about such a collaboration is making me stutter!

Jerry :

What is this - the lightweight version? Will there be a heavy duty model?

Copis :

I can jam the lock on the Sebenza using a forceful grip. While not as bad as liner locks that release, I don't consider it ideal. I cannot cause the blade of my Battle Mistress to suffer any problems by squeezing the handle, hopefully the Busse Combat folder will behave the same way.

Chris does grind a nice thin cutting edge on the Sebenzas though which is a very welcome change from others like Benchmade who grind axe profiles on folders, which would be cool if you were supposed to be able to use them in that manner but unfortunatly you cannot. Well that is not exactly true, you can do it, just only once.

Good points Cliff! Personally I have given up my search for a folder that will behave like a fixed blade. I do believe that the Sebenza is one of the best Folder/Fixed compromises today!

Copis, I had given up on heavy use folders as well until Jerry commented that Busse Combat was coming out with one. I was interested in Striders new folder for awhile until I found out it was a liner lock.

As for lockblades in general, the lock on a knife should be functional and to me that means quite simply that it should keep the blade locked open, ie. be a lock. I don't get the "it is just a safety device - treat it like it is not a lockblade" argument at all. To me, that is like saying a lifejacket should not be able to keep you afloat unless you can swim.

This of course does not mean that all folders should have really heavy duty locks. Light use folders can have light use locks. As long as the blades will give before the lock I am happy. For example under lateral force the following locks will hold : Swiss Army Rucksack (blade will break), the Spyderco Calypso Jr (folder will pop apart). , and the Endura (blade will break). They are also secure under torquing (blades will bend rather easy).

Andy,
Sign me up for one! Jerry make it 351 orders!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am not kidding.

Cliff,

We are exploring a heavier duty model. It comes with its own all terrain wheels and can be rolled almost anywhere. Blade lock up is enhanced by a 300hp motor which is needed to rotate the blade. Should prove pretty popular. (Say that 3 times real fast)

Um Jerry, now you got me in trouble (see e-mail). I also think that anyone that can produce a folder to the standard of "Yours in folders that don't unless you want them to" should be hailed as king and the guy who invented sliced bread better get his arse out of the throne and start sweeping your shop

I presume the blade will be coated? Hopefully w/micarta scales?(rounded like the fixed blade models?!)

The handle, which will be milled from a solid metal billet, will be one contoured piece. No micarta slabs. . . sorry. Maybe in the future. The blade will probably be coated. Hey,. . . wait a minute! You guys are getting me to slowly and unconsciously spill the beans. Next I'll be telling you that the name we have picked is. . . . . WHOA! . . . that was close!

Yours in folders that don't close on your trigger finger,

Jerry Busse

I am also looking forward to the Busse folder and have one other question about it. Will the lock be ambidextrous? If not, will both left and right hand models be offered?

Come on Jerry, solid metal? How are you going to keep it "neutral" in feel for extremes of hot/cold weather? Must be Ti? Or is it some new formula that you cannot disclose at this time?

What kind of MSRP target?

Oops, double tapped it.

Jerry
Will you have these at the BLADE Show????
Or at least a prototype for those in the know to drool over.

Now for the real question: how many $$'s, less than a paycheck?
