"Had Smithson been born at a different time and place, preferred the gray over blue, and loved this state’s favorite group, he would have most certainly found this town to be the answer to his dreams."

Exactly my thoughts...no really! Seems they have a concert and a museum to the band AL in Fort Payne. Which is near Little River Canyon. Which is near Jamestown. Little River Canyon is a big crack on top of a mountain with a very "reckless" whitewater section known as the suicide section. I'm thinking maybe Jerry would bury it somewhere remote and or protected so as to be less likely disturbed by developers. Nice state park near there also. Hmmm...long canyon lots of good hiding places.

Whoa!!!
Great job guys, I hope you are right. :D

Once you get all the clues together, I'll be more than happy to drive down and start digging for you ;):D:D

Seriously, I'm looking forward to someone finding this bad boy so we can see what it looks like :D

hmmmm. .. "James" Smithson? Must've been his brother, or cousin, or possibly no relation at all.

You guys are really knockin' my socks off with your code-breaking abilities. I'm gonna have to make these clues a little bit tougher! ;)

Rawhide you are on to it with Fort Payne. (The loacation of the Alabama fan club and museum is 101 Glenn Blvd SW, Fort Payne, Alabama. Maybe this will help.)

edited to add- Jerry made a comment about taking a little trip - fall - falls. Maybe Little River Falls off highway 35 in Fort Payne.

Smithson (Joseph) was in charge of the bureau of missing socks the first org. that's devoted to finding out what happens to missing single socks!

Guess where the sock capital of the world is???? FORT PAYNE!!!!

Hmmm...Took alittle trip? Seems like there are a number of trails in the area. Some from the rim to the canyon floor are short...but awfully steep!
