We all know Jerry to be a riddle maker & generally a fun guy. I was chatting with Mrs. Skunk (Vickie) and me being in CA… ended up asking if I had heard of “Cucamonga?” and the hidden treasure. I gathered there was buried treasure in So Cal. Talking old school Busse treasure!

This got my attention. I started reading some old threads to find out more…

Nuclear Payload! Hidden Treasure! Buried Here!

Here it is! Nuclear payload #2. . . Is it buried near you?

Nuclear Payload Clue #3! . . . . This is getting too easy!

In one of the threads, Jerry mentioned a So Cal Nuclear Payload.

I’m thinking… Oooh, did anyone ever find it & post about it? Is it still there?

Turns out, member E Evolute got on to something…

And…

So I contacted Evolute and asked if he’d been out to look for it. He hadn’t. I invited myself along to help hunt… but he was hesitant to accept any company.

Undeterred… I got to trying to decipher the treasure’s location.

Skunk and I are 85% - 95% sure you’ll find the buried treasure once you two look at a map together!! We were there, oh so close, but didn’t have a whole day to excavate around the whole rock. 😣 Keep in mind that I’m a digger! I LOVE looking for treasure!!

Yikes… Poison Oak is the absolute worst. I lasts for sooo long. I used to get it a lot as a kid. I’d be happy to never get it again.

That's why I mentioned it. Horrible stuff. Might want to look into disposable coveralls if you're serious about going. Also, ask Jerry to be sure I'm remembering correctly about Cucamonga & the nasty weed. 🤙 We had this convo so long ago.

Jerry’s clue said it was outside of Upland… so I thought I better look for some waterfalls north of there.

Turns out… there’s some called Sapphire Falls… at the red dot.

I inquired w/Jerry about location, as there’s a few other falls… but the Upper Sapphire Falls seemed to be the best area.

So, I had to go see if I could sniff out the hidden treasure.

The day I picked had a high temp of 80 deg.

I start out a fair amount of these vids out of breath because after the partial descent into the canyon… I took a drink of water and put the cap on cross-threaded. About half my water leaked out before I noticed. So I had to out myself in water rations. It was tough… the hike / hunt around the falls was tough enough as-is! I’ve done a lot of backpacking in the Sierras… this hunt was tough!!

Thanks for the videos. Must be disappointing that you didn’t score, but kudos to you for giving it a real shot! Quite an adventure…
You’re welcome!

Boy did I ever want to find them!! I had gone down and stayed the night with my sister & family. I barely slept the two night before the hunt.

I kept envisioning those “Busse in logo” gems and couldn’t fall asleep😱:
Here are a few of my early blades from 1982-1984. . . Crazy!!!!

But disappointed… no. I had the best time… getting off my butt & having an adventure!

Jerry is such a fun/thoughtful character to even start the Nuclear Payload fun, hiding dog tags, riddles… all that stuff. Life’s short… gotta find/make fun where you can.

It reminded me of a show I recently watched about Forest Fenn’s hidden treasure. Three episodes… good watch:

Absolutely the only way to look at it. In fact, in my mind that’s the true gift. You can buy all the knives you’ll ever need, but the exhilaration… that thrill of the hunt…is impossible to put a price on. In those moments you’re fully alive!👍
