Null & Void Auctions of Ebay.

Twice in the past week I've received notifications from ebay that actions I was a bidder on have been declared null & void. Fortunately, I wasn't the winner in either case. Its just odd to have that happen on two in the same week. Makes me wonder what's going on? The only other time I've had anything go on over the years was a while back a seller cancelled an auction I was winning that as best I can tell was either because they didn't like the low prices the item was getting or they had sold it to someone else. In either case I thought it was kind of a low way of dealing.

Has anyone else seen an increase in this null & void auctions lately? Just curious.

I have also seen this before..Very weird..I never knew what happened.

I was bidding on a Col Coon stag knife once that had at least 20 bidders on it and was actually within a few hours of winning the knife, when I checked on my bid the whole auction had been pulled. It was not null & void but just this auction has been closed with no explaination or answer of why...

This has happened twice to me and everytime the knife has been a jewel of a knife with great value and lots of folks bidding lots of money on it...I just always assumed that some big bidder dropped a wad of cash and scooped it up somehow but I never knew how or if they could do that..??

I've had people do that to me over the years. Likely someone emailed them and offered them big money, or it was going too low and they chickened out. Chicken is the word, as in chickenshit! I avoid their auctions, figuring I bid pretty generously, and I can cost them money by not giving them any of mine. "There's always another knife to buy!" I always tell myself that when I'm tempted to bid too high!! Of course I don't always listen!!!!

I had someone pull that on me one time, and figured he sold the item either through his eBay store or his retail outlet. He runs a lot of auctions over there, too.

Ebay will pull sellers auctions if they do not pay their account fees.

Ebay also pulls auctions when there are a number of complaints against a seller and suspend their account.

Ebay will also cancel auctions for various other reasons such as repeated offenses as selling prohibited items-items violating their policies, knock offs, etc.

Usually, if the seller ends the auction, that is what the email will say-the seller ended the auction early.

I agree, they probably didn't think they were going to get the price they wanted. Very "chickens--t" to quote a wise man. ;)

I've never pulled an auction of my own once started, and I've taken a bath many more times than once. I'm sure I'm not the only one here who has gone through that.

I've pulled a couple auctions when I was selling something for my wife, and she changed her mind mid-way through, but only if there were no bidders. She wanted me to pull an item of hers once but since it had some bids I told her no-can-do. I believe I spent at least one night in the dog-house over that one.

Hopefully you've just had a run of bad luck which is now over, Amos.

It's the null & voids I really wonder about. Did they get caught padding the auction? Was someone using someone elses account? Did aliens come back to discover the stuff they left in storage was being auctioned off before the proper time had lapsed. I'm naturally suspicious, what can I say. :D
