I ground the other day for about 5 hrs straight. Ever since them my thumb has been slightly numb. Is this from the vibrations? Will it get worse?

Not the dreaded "Numb Thumb"........

Only one cure........put it in your mouth and keep it there everywhere you go........ church, work, movies, wally world, everywhere.

Do this for about 3 days.......it might get better, and it might not :D

yep...2-4 days it will fall off! :p
all kidding aside, you should be Ok...when i go grinder crazy i usually get the same numb thumbs... prob the combination of the heat and vibration i suppose... take care

Probably just nerve damage Brian - I wouldn't sweat it too much. Look at this way - you can ignore the heat! Now if only your fingers would go numb... :D

Oh well...As long as I can use it right! Hell, I have had burns on my first fingers since I got my KMG. Now that finger has a friend to complain to at the bar ;)

I don't have much feeling left in any of my fingertips (or thumb tips) anymore. Especially when it comes to feeling heat. Never had my whole thumb just lose feeling though.

If it doesn't go away fairly soon you might want to see a doctor. Could be early signs of carpal tunnel. The nerve passages in your wrist start to close up, when your whole hand starts going numb it gets to be harder to ignore.

Cut the tips off of an old leather glove. Slip these on your thumbs. Tape them on if you have to. Try it, it works!

It sure would! After that, be careful you don't rub or touch any sensitive parts of you body with the "treated" fingers. This includes being careful if you get a nature call. ********************* !!!!!!

At least it's only your thumb. After nine hours on my regular job, my brain goes numb.

my fingers do that cuting leather out for sheaths when I have to many of them to do, I had to take it easy for a while,, then they were ok.. It may be the pressure you're puting on them. I don't have that problem grinding though?
just take a little brake from time to time..

Tru Grit sells finger and thumb protectors made of leather with an elastic backing to keep them on your digits. Might be cheaper than cutting up gloves, if you don't have an old pair already lying around.

Thanks for the help guys. I'll try the old glove trick. I normally wrap my fingers with duct tape anyway.
