Here is my second attempt, I posted a pic on the first grinds a while ago, it's been a long time coming but I'm finally finished of my second knife.

number2.jpg

440C OAL is 9 1/2" right on the button with a 5" blade (from tip to handle)
I sent my blades to George Tichbourne for heat treating by Allied (Thanks very much George and Carol!)
The handle is an awesome piece of birch I had found locally, it's full of figure, I wish you could see that in this picture.
The pins are 5/16" 316 Stainless.

about the picture, that's just me trying to mess around, following some of the tutorials by other makers.

let me know what you think guys/gals!
Thanks, Steve.

That turned out great! Boy you even have a grind on the top edge. I haven't tried that. Love the coloring and texture of the scales. Very nice indeed. ;)

Thanks for the quick replies and kind words guys.
for some reason it feels like I've been at this a lot longer than I actually have, my problem is I have 4 on the go right now.
I have a logo design I just need to get the money to make it appear on the blade ;)
Did you get a chance to check out those O1 blades I posted in the bunker Brian?

My father is in the process of making a chamber to hold the heat in so I can use a torch and a quench tank so I can try the shallow quench... should be fun anyway!
Steve

Yes, indeed, nice work! Very impressive second effort. I look forward to seeing the next 4! :)

Looks pretty nice. The design is pleasing, and those aren't easy grinds. :D

Keep it up.:)

I'd like to second that; nice work!

Thanks guys!
It shouldn't be too much longer for #3 and #4, I hope you all like those too.
The main point is I'm enjoying this "hobby"(if you can call it that) in a big way and meeting a lot of interesting people along the way.
Cheers, Steve. ;)

Way to go Steve, that's some superfine work! You should've seen my second knife... Downside of that, my brother still has it so I "get" to see it once in a while. :D Your second knife is a fine thing. You should be really proud of that, and of your photography. You don't seem to be limited at anything you set your mind to. :) Nice going, thanks for sharing.

Very nice Steve. I like the extra grinds.

One question is that a finger groove or an allusion from the figure in the wood.

The picture looks very good also. Thanks for sharing

Nice Knife there... I just hope my second comes out looking as good as that :) just been setting up my makeshift anvil :D

Was that knife forged and then ground to finish or is it stock removal? full tang suggests stock removal to my limited knowledge :)

Pretty advanced design for your second knife. The grinds are crisp and clean, the handle has some real style, I think it came out great! Im not wild about the wood choice though. It deserves better. Can you see that baby with at least ironwood? Dont listen to me I like ivory.

Yea I agree with the other guys, it looks nice and clean, a great effort for a second knife.

Especially that blade, looks beautiful !

Joe, it is carved out a lot, it's hard to see with the way the wood gives off all the "waves". I made it so you can have your thumb on the back of the blade or the side of the handle (left or right handed) I like the way it turned out and so far every one that holds it likes that idea so I guess it was an ok choice :)

I would have liked to use something like ironwood but money didn't permit it and I wanted to finish this one up. :p

It is stock removal, I'm like you with the forge, I'm just trying to get in to it and asking a lot of questions to some local guys and trying to get one built, but mainly because I want to make my own damascus some day.

Thanks again everyone! ;)
Steve
