Can anyone tell me how many collaborations there were between Schrade and D'Holder? Also, did they made a version with bone handles made to look like stag? Thanks.

The AG Russell Site lists three:

Grizzly - Desert Ironwood

Elk - Genuine India Stag

Bighorn - Genuine Sheephorn

I don't know if there were others

Three of the five editions were complete (or nearly so, according to D'alton Holder): The Grizzly (Desert Ironwood), the Big Horn (rams horn), and the Elk (India Stag). There were 53 of the number four, the Whitetail (burgandy English Walnut) that had been done and shiped to A. G. Russell Company of Lowell Arkansas. They had been presold and were shipped to customers. The remaining 447 were never finished. Number five Eagle (African Gemsbok horn) existed in one set of production knives serial numbered 001. No other knives were made as far as Mr. Holder knows. Several unmarked number fours were made and sold to a gentleman in Colorado. So there are indeed all five existing out there somewhere.

The first two were finger groove drop points. The second two were clip blade finger groove models and the fifth was a small fighter, according to the designer.

A.G. Russell still lists the Grizzly and Big Horn on his website for those interested.

There were two series of Schrade D'Holder collaborations. The first was the Millenium Series of which there were 3 knives - Stag, Green Maple and Maple Burl.
The second as mentioned above was the Centennial Series with the first being the Grizzly, the second being the Ram, the third being the Elk and the fourth being the Whitetail. There were supposedly 65 knives in this release(Whitetail) produced with 53 being signed and numbered and 12 being unsigned and unnumbered. 5 of the unsigned & unnumbered knives are supposedly in Colorado and the other 7 are supposedly in New Mexico. The 5th knife in the release was never "produced" and most certainley never 'released' although there may be a complete set or two.
The Stag used in both was genuine Stag, so no, there were no "bone made to look like stag" released.

Just goes to show what I know! I knew that the famous "Unbloodied D'holder" posted last week was one without an integral bolster, but did not know about the first series, without the Shaw medallion. The green maple burl handle of the posted S/D was a mystery to me until now! I don't suppose we have photos of the other "Millenium" knives?

Amazing. Simply amazing. At least from the photos, Schrades execution of the collaborations matched D'alton's quality of design. Oh, what might have been! Thanks for the illustrations guys!

There is a very different "fit & feel" to the knives produced by Schrade and those produced by D'Holder himself.
Not to take away from the Schrade produced knives, but the knives produced by D'Holder feel a little 'heavier' or perhaps 'solid' and have a balance that I prefer.
This is based upon my comparing the Grizzly, Ram and Elk produced by Schrade, with the 'prototypes' produced by D himself.

Someday I hope to be able to make that comparison myself!

Yes, I am jealous.

Beautiful collection as I have said.
