Hey guys,

I noticed the other day that on the inside (inside where the tools are) that my Wave has a stamp of 0309, its on the inside where the can/bottle opener is and the phillips/flat bit are.

What does this number represent? I assume the month/year it was made, March 2009?

What's the number inside your wave?

I think all Leatherman tools are stamped in a similar way - to track the 25 year warranty

I have never noticed that before in my leatherman. Mine has 0090. Only 4 years left on the warranty that i have never had to use yet.

Looking up some info it seems that the date code is year month not month year. The wave appeared at the shot show in 1998. With my 0090 number it only makes sense for it to be from year 2000 in september.

I have looked at quite a few Leathermen in different models, all were date marked obiously month and year. Maybe you are looking at your numbers upside down. Could be 0600, which would make sense.

Ok well in that case its either june 2000 or september 2000(if its reversed). Ether way its an 11 year old leatherman with no problems of any kind.

I've the production date and an extra number as well, respectively "12 1D" + production date in one side of the handle and "12 2D" + production date in the other side of the handle. What do these other numbers mean? Could it have to do with international warranty? (I got a Charge TTi)

I heard that your Leatherman tool will be repaired in country of purchase.
So if I order a Leatherman tool in the USA and live in Europe it has to go to Portland USA for repair instead of being repaired/replaced by a service center in Europe. If you buy your Leatherman tool in Europe it will be repaired/replaced by a service center in Europe. This warranty/service procedure seems a bit weird to me though.
Anyway I couldn't really find a product ID or something on my tool. The only numbers I found are the ones above. And on my wave I only see the production date in one side of the handle. So how would they determine where the tool was sold if it doesn't have a product ID?

Although I am not sure if European warranty service would be similar, I have found that the USA version has been quite generous. There have been many reports of multitools clearly abused by their owners which had been repaired or replaced at no charge by Leatherman, even paying return postage. That included one of mine for which I expected to be charged, since the damage was my fault. There is a good chance that no matter what the warranty implies, Leatherman would take care of any problems with their products, no matter where they were sold.
