I just purchased a BM42AS #492 of 500 from the First production run with matching serialized box. Should I just keep the knife in the box and lock them away someplace safe or should I play with it a little (very little) first? Also, will the Anodizing ever come off or is it permenant? What is the difference between Anodizing and Thermally Oxidizing?

Take it out, play with it, pry boxes open with it, mow fields with it. Whatever you want.

There are only 500 of those and every one that gets ruined just increases the eventual value of mine. So, I encourage you to trash yours.

And, as you do so, Think W!

The anodizing will come off, the difference between anodizing and thermally oxidizing is that anodizing is done through electricity and thermal oxidation is done through heat. Both forms will come off eventually.

If you play with a numbered one it will raise the value of all the other numbered 42AS's, I personally wouldn't have a problem flipping a numbered balisong (too bad I don't) because I don't buy to collect, I buy to flip. Ulitimately it's your decision.

Sure, I'll go right out and do that. But only after I witness you do the same exact thing first. So what you're saying is that I need to just lock this think away someplace safe and forget about it for a few years right?

Lock it away only if you payed over $100 just to have it lie around without any action. Of course in a number of years the value will be a lot more, especially if other numbered balisongs are damaged.

If I am able to go to the Oregon Blade show I will look for a numbered 42 so that I may buy it, flip it, damage it, and raise the value of your guy's numbered 42's, guaranteed. I will let you guys know once it is damaged, I'll post pictures as well (of course I have to get a numbered 42 first).

I wonder if BM will switch the handles on a numbered 42 so it will be a manila style?!? That'd be cool.

We probably got our balis from the person, Tony?

Yup, right from Tony. He's a great guy to deal with. One of the best sellers I've encountered. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for yours? I paid $139 plus shipping.

Yep, right on the money. Im picking up a microtech from him next week also. Very good/honest person to work with!
