hey cold steel, some knives that are truely awe inspiring such as the xl espada, or san mai models, are for some reason not very often reviewed. i was wondering, how many san mai laredos have been sold since theyve been around, or just this year? does cold steel know what areas in the country youre more likely to find cold steel users?
random trivia such as this is often entertaining. i would have sent a message but thought others may wonder as well.

The San Mai knives are incredibly popular. I can't reveal exact numbers but they are very much in demand.
They are classics :)

thats cool to know, i just was wondering because not many people say "oh look, a $400 dollar knife i guess ill get it" not knowing much about it, and knife people normally post things on here or youtube, and ive seen very few mentionings of certain models and i was thinking "who buys them? i know of a lot of people who want them, but not many owners"

I've met a lot of people who own San Mai models and they often fall into one of three categories:

1) Some are "users". Word of mouth and our reputation(that we are very proud of) has usually led them to the brand. They are all about the performance.
2) Some are "collectors" and the San Mai knives are appreciated for their beauty. They have pride of place in collection cases and on display in their homes
3) Others are what I would probably call "user-collectors". People who are long time fans of Cold Steel who own a selection of our knives and decided to save up their money for that one high end model they always wanted.

There are always exceptions to the rule, for example I've met several teenagers recently who had been fans of the brand for a long time (watching our videos online) but the first Cold Steel knife they actually purchased was a San Mai model.
That was very cool :)

There's no doubt that the San Mai knives are still amazingly popular and in high demand.

I fall into another category which is also very common.
I was a long-time fan of Cold Steel. I had a bunch of their knives and I received my first San Mai knife (a Caledoneon Edge) as a gift. That knife remains one of the most treasured pieces in my collection.
For many knife fans, that elusive high-end San Mai knife is an awesome gift.
I know a few people who have been given them as wedding gifts etc.

That sounds like the best wedding gift ever.

I suppose I can be considered a user-collector. My fixed blades are "just in case", for the most part (my Survival Edge rides in my backpack side pocket for the sole purpose of SHTF), whereas my folders are in rotation, and I carry whichever I feel like that day. Most of my knives, folder and fixed blade, are Cold Steel, and I don't expect this to ever change. I am extremely impressed with the design and build quality of Cold Steel's knives, I love the materials used, and the value.

Right now I've got my Mackinac Hunter (one of my all time favorite knives) on my belt, and my Super Edge where it always is - on my keychain.

Where was I going with this? Oh, right. My first San Mai knife (still my only one, but this will change) was my Recon Tanto. Every time I pick it up, I am extremely impressed with the sharpness, the finish, and the feel. The value is just sky high.

I've been buying from other brands, too, but every time I do, I see something about that other-brand knife that I just don't dig, that I know would be different were it a Cold Steel knife.

You and Mr. Thompson can expect much more of my business.
