I have received these historical Khurkuri knife for your collections.
This knife, the Nuwakote Khurkuri, comes with another long history
behind it from the Nuwakote village in the most central district of Nepal.
The village is just 75km from the legendary Kathmandu, once the capital
of the Valley before King Prithivi Narayan Shah, unified Nepal.

In the 18th century, Nepal was divided into many tiny warring states and
King Prithivi Narayan Shah unified those states and created the kingdom
of Nepal. One belief is that the Nuwakote people used the Nuwakote Khurkuri
to protect their territory when the King decided to unite them into one kingdom.

Our shop Kamis, especially Mr. Rajkumar, made a replica version in three
different sizes 15, 15.5 and 17 inches, I am offering these
historical knife sales on the blade forum. I am still not quite ready for picture post.
Karda will post the pix shortly.

Lee,

The profile reminds me of a Gelbu Special. Such profile has proven to be an all-rounder.
On the engraving of the handle i found this:
Ferguson posted on IKRHS whch he quoted from John Powell's:
"The kukri with the small fruitwood grip is a very nice example from around 1850 and probably made in Nuwakot province. This style is very indicative of that area and date."

I'm not sure if this is anyway relevant.Maybe Steve F will drop in.
