NW Ranger question

Hi everybody, I'm planning a thru-hike of the Pacific Crest Trail next year and am in the market for solid survival knife. I work for an outdoor gear retailer and through my dealings with SOG have become a loyal customer. I've had a Seal Pup for a couple years and it's great, however I kind of want a new 'toy' to play with on the trail. I've had my eye on the NW Ranger and was wondering if anybody has any first hand experience with one. Or failing that, what knife would you take for a 6 month hike through the mountains?

thanks guys,
Tom

(I know knives aren't toys, but you get the idea)

I'd say you can't go wrong with either one. If you want a NW Ranger this could be the perfect "excuse" to get one. I'd so go for it and the knife would be great for a hiking trip.

i would go for the nw ranger myself... the seal pup will take more of a beating but the nw ranger is still a pretty solid knife and i personally think it hold an edge a little better

Given the full height flat grind of the NW Ranger, that would be my choice unless you need a really strong knife for light prying (although I think that voids SOG's warranty). I don't have either the NW Ranger or Seal Pup, but I have the Seal 2000 and various other knives, and through use of them all, I prefer high flat ground blades. My brother has the Seal Pup though, and it does seem like a very sturdy little knife!
