Wow, now the west coast has a "Best Made Co" lol.
American made as a catch phrase, slick web sites and videos seem to be the formula. AT least his tee shirts are selling for only $25... Best Made's are $38.

Does he actually do anything to them, or is he just buying old axes in passable shape and flipping them? I mean, it's nice that he makes leather covers for 'em, but if that's his business model it's kind of a disappointing one.

I've got a bunch of similar pieces that I'd gladly sell him for $60-$75 each, If he can really get $125 for them. This guy clearly isn't selling those axes to guys like us, who find the same heads in junk shops for $5-$10 and then restore them ourselves... he's aiming for a different, less ambitious buyer. Hate to say it but I kinda like his T-shirts.

Joe

I think the prices are high too. But if he can sell them, I can restore them. I corresponded with Andy by e-mail. He's a pretty good guy. I think it would be a cool retirement job to restore vintage tools and supply somebody that can sell them. I don't have any interest in running a business after retirement. Too much paperwork.

I'm not sure how much work he does restoring tools, but it seems like he makes his own custom sheaths for the axes he sells. I know some of you guys have axes you would be happy to sell. This seems like a good company to supply. I worry a little that this could start setting a precedence for axe prices, but I don't worry enough to not turn over a few tools. I'm pretty small scale. Unlikely that I'll start competing with China. Better tools though.

Like I said in my first post. He could probably use some help with supply.

Looks like this fellow is doing what a number of folks wish they could do, namely making money doing something of personal interest rather than something we must for someone else. I wish him the best of luck-we may not have the freedom to do this sort of thing much longer in view of the direction of our government. Good luck with your enterprise NW Axeco.

I say good luck as well. He seems like a straightforward guy with good ethics. I don't think long term demand is there relative to the amount of old axes and axe heads available, especially when you charge more than new Gransfors Bruks axes. I'm often wrong on trends though.

Never underestimate the laziness and demand for prestige that the modern consumer personifies.

Wow- the government is going after tee shirt and restored axe sellers?

Not specifically, but they are destroying capitalism and free enterprise via taxation and regulation. There's more than one way to bring ruin to something you fear or restrict something you want to control, and the head on approach would be offered the stoutest resistance. Does that clarify things?

No taxes on internet sales out of state. Not that I want to get into a political debate over a hipster axe company lol.
The killer of all the local small businesses/ mom and pop stores near me is competition from big box stores. Pricing and selection did them in , not taxes or regulations.
Internet sales put the last nail in their coffin. Why buy locally or even drive to a store when you can get something (usually the same thing) delivered cheaper?
