Hi Everyone,

I’m new to the site.

I am looking to buy a new fixed blade knife for hunting.

I see that the NY knife show is this weekend and I’m thinking of checking it out as I will be nearby.

Is this show a good place to buy knives or are the manufacturers/dealers there primarily to show new designs/products etc to the public?

It would be great if I could pick up a new knife there. I see Bob Dozier will be attending and I am particularly interested in his knives.

Appreciate all responses!

I dont think you can buy knives AT the show. But I'm sure most makers would be willing to sell stuff after the show is over each day.
I'm attending, but won't have a table set up.
First time for me there.

I’ll be going for the first time this Friday. From the organizers website:

"Fifty Fifty Productions presents the 39th Annual New York Custom Knife Show. NYCKS allows collectors to purchase directly from the best knifemakers in the world."

I read there will also be auctions for high end pieces.

You can purchase knives there.. The majority will be hand made.. John

You can most definitely buy knives at the show. You will have a better choice if you go Friday as early as possible, especially since its only two days as opposed to the normal three. Good luck n enjoy. Usually lots of options to choose from.

One word of warning; the knives at this show wont be cheap;it can be very expensive there; you might not find a 60.00 fixed blade there, you might need a few hundred bucks to get one...

They should just call it the NJCKS At this point. I just don’t see it going by to NY anytime soon.

Well I made it to the show and was able to pick up a few knives as well as meet Dan. What a nice guy. I’ll try to post pics later.

Well, it looks like I need to open an account with imgur (or a similar site) to post pictures. I will get to that eventually. In any event, I picked up a K-14 (Lil Deer Skinner), a K-16 (Yukon Pro Skinner), and a K-58 (Small Evo Hunter). I'm excited to put them to use in the field.

I am newish to nicer knives and am sure I will be posting a few questions soon regarding a recommended sharpening system. For now I will read the various threads on sharpening and see what I can figure out for myself.
