I recently acquired a CRK Nyala off of the forum and have been itching to get some more use out of it but with the newest addition to the families recent arrival, and my bum shoulder needing some more work, I just haven't found the time to get out into the woods yet this year.
Since some of you were kind enough to view my other post showing my Large Insingo doing some kitchen work I decided that I'd use the Nyala while making some Taco's and Burrito's for dinner.

Although I never had a doubt that it'd make a great camp and hunting knife it sure shined at kitchen duty, reinforcing my belief that it'd be king of the camp kitchen.

Here's a few pics showing it at work.

Testing the waters, or lettuce, whatever ;D

I always make long slices of lettuce and chopped bits of lettuce to create a little variety, It adds to the options and creates different textures for the kids to choose from-plus i'm just weird like that.
Here's the long slices.

Some chopped lettuce.

Now the tomatoes, I like to use Roma's for Mexican food since they're not so watery. I remove the inside to keep it from getting mushy.

Then a nice chop with the Nyala and they're ready for the buffet line.

Now some slicing of the Fajita seasoned chicken breast and the buffet line is almost complete.

I had planned on showing you the whole line up to include the salsa, wraps, taco shells, etc. but I ran out of time

I'm loving this Nyala, it feels great in hand and was comfortable for the kitchen duty that it was used for. I can't wait to get into the woods with it and hope that my shoulder is healed by Nov so that i can give it a try during deer season.

If you read this far, thank you for checking out my post.

Ditto - a recent purchase has me longing for the woods as well.

I hope that you're able to find the time to get out into the woods and enjoy yourself, I can't wait until my vacation finally gets here, and then again for deer season.

Hope your shoulder heals up without delay or complications. My adult Son is really getting into cooking, I'm thinkin the Nyala might make a really special Xmas gift.

Thank you very much!
I hope so too, had two botched surgeries that left me with a frozen shoulder and 10x the pain I had before the first cut; now I'm losing mobility and strength from what I had left so I'll be seeing the new surgeon soon- lotsa fun.

It's a decent kitchen knife but I think the grind would be a touch too fat to use as a daily kitchen utensil. Have you looked into the Sikayo? After how well the Nyala worked with the S35VN I'm thinking of getting the shorter one to try it out.

Thanks for checking out the post, I hope that you and yours are doing well.

Pretty young to handle the Nyala and sport a Marathon GSAR/TSAR....

I couldn't believe how the JSAR fit my boys wrist! He's only 2 and even though he's the size of a 5 year old I expected it to dwarf his arm. Now you see why I'm posting so many cooking threads, he's only 1 of 3 and he alone is going to bankrupt me with the grocery bill; already costs too much to take them out to eat ;)

The 6." Sikayo looks like a contender.

I was thinking the same thing.
The last few kitchen knives I've bought were Santoku style, which I prefer, that's the only thing that's kept me from buying the Sikayo so far, with the Insingo Nyala coming out I may buy that one first as it gives me that Santoku style that I like and the very "grippy" Nyala handle.
One feature I really like about the Nyala that makes kitchen work more pleasant is the rounded spine, so many expensive kitchen knives forget to do that important finish work and it tears up your hand on the busy days.

Have you checked out the Insingo Nyala?
I think that I'm getting that one before the Sikayo now that I've spent the last 1/2 hour looking into it.

I have ordered the insingo nyala over a month ago from CRK. I looking forward to receiving it when it is done. Should do great in the kitchen and the field. If it works like I think it will, I will probalby need to get another.

Awesome post on the Nyala Rich!! Thanks for the link!! Just goes to show how versatile the Nyala is!! And those taco filings look mmmm good! !

Thanks Dave,
If I remember correctly it was a hit with the kids but not as loved as my venison taco/burrito's.

It's a great knife, I hope that you take the time to try yours out in the kitchen just for some fun.
I may end up getting the Insingo version when it comes out since I like my Large and Small Sebenza Insingo's so much, if I get it I'll post a thread about it for sure.
