Nyala Questions??

Hello CRK people,

If you don't mind, I have a question.

For you Nyala Folks which do you prefer the standard version or the Insingo?

I am in the market for a new EDC Fixed Blade. I see the Insingo working better for most chores except hunting tasks.

I like the looks of both but usually favor more traditonal blade shapes. Maybe it's time to tey something different.

Thanks,
LV,

I have both and even though I prefer the Insingo style for the folders for the Nyala I prefer the standard profile.
The Insingo version is STOUT, don't let the swedge fool you into thinking it couldn't take a beating, I have no doubt that the knife could handle or do anything. The only reason it takes second chair, for me, is that the point is less suited for processing game. The standard excels at that task and since the majority of my woods time revolves around hunting the choice is easy.
I love to use my Insingo 21's for food prep but it's not as nice with the Insingo Nyala due to the thickness of the blade combined with the hollow grind. The knife ends up pushing the food apart as much as it cuts it.
I love the knife, but, it gets left behind a lot in favor of the standard version for the reasons listed above.

Solid advice!

Thank You,

I'm happy to help.

So did you decide wether or not you're going to change it up a little and try the Insingo version out, or are you going to go with the traditional shape of the drop point ?

They're both great knives, it is a tough choice that I'm glad I didn't have to make- the Insingo didn't come out until I had already bought 2 standard versions :D

I think I'll ponder on it a bit. Leaning toward the traditional shape at the moment. But in reality I can see owning one of each. I agree with you, for critter work the traditional blade has the edge.

Thanks again for the help.

I looked at that one for a while too.

Congrats on the purchase, let us all know what you think when you get it.

Yes, that was me. If it is as described! and I have no reason to believe it won't be. I think I'll be happy.

Apparently, it still fits into the leather sheath very well.

Not sure if I'll like the Carbon Scales or not. But I figure If I don't, I can always return the knife to stock and sell off the scales and kydex.

It was just too pretty and extras laiden to pass up.

I am excited. I sold off all my Chris Reeves Knives a while ago (we can start a seperate thread about how stupid I am at a later date!) and have been missing them immensely ever since.

I sold off a batch of GB Series knives and have regretted it since the day they left.

Some how I ended up as a collector. That was never my intention. So I am in the process of selling down. But I will keep some and buy others. They will all be users. I am never traveling this path again. I understand many folks collect. And personally, I think that's great.

I have just taken a more simplistic path in my life.. And I am trying hard to pare down to only necessities. And versatile ones at that. That does not mean no new knives. It just means they will have to earn their keep. Rather than sitting in a safe looking pretty.

I will echo what many others here have already said. I would love to see a GB-5" with no serrations. But I also understand that most likely will not ever happen.

It is nice to be back in the fold.

This was an opportunity to step out of my norm. If I had ordered a Nyala. It would have been the more conventional version. So that was good.

Well, my new knife arrived today. Very impressive piece of steel. I am always amazed at how well Chris Reeve knives are finished. I think is's a keeper.

Looks great with the carbon scales. I will post some up in a seperate thread at some point. It passed its first test today. And made me lunch. I always put my knives through kitchen duty whenever possible. French bread no problem. Slice up some turkey, check. But where it really surprised me was the Colby cheese. It did a much better job on the cheese than I had expected for a thick balde.

Overall very happy.

Thanks again for all the advice and kind words.
LV,

Sounds like love, congrats !

I'm looking forward to more pics of it with those handles. I've been considering having some made for one of mine for quite a while, if the texturing of the original handles wasn't so good it's be an easy choice.
