I'm new here and am LOVING this site!

Anyway... I was looking to start collecting, but wanted to have the NYC laws clarified...

Is it illegal to even OWN an automatic knife? I'm curious about OTF automatics, switchblades and stiletto's.

Also, what about large knives (4"+) for purpose of ownership, not carrying. Any issues?

I do not own any autos or daggers as I believe they are illegal even to own.

However, I do own plenty of knives with blades over 4". I don't worry much about it because I only use them for hunting and camping, NOT EDC. NYC law states that you can have in your posession a knife with a blade over 4" provided that you are in fact transporting them to a hunting, fishing, camping, etc. location.

Do you have a valid NYS hunting license or are you looking for an EDC?

Do a search on this as I and others have cleared this up before, but in NYS possession means it is under your care and or control ANYWHERE including your house. Unless your are a police or peace officer than they are illegal to buy or possess, however if you have them for use during fishing-hunting-trapping and have a valid license then you can have them in your house and carry them to and from those activites. In NYC you can not carry a knife exposed normallly....
