So I've been working my ass off and just got paid last Friday. I'm off tonight and tomorrow because of a little blizzard. I have some time to get a new knife. I'm looking for any fixed blade, as long as it's cool and practical for hiking under $100. Throw over the possibilities.

My esee 4 has served me wonderfully. I believe the stainless version is available now too, but nothing beats a stripped well "patinad" blade.

Are you looking to use that for the blizzard?

Buy it for what you can foresee the 3 F's (form, fit and function). I would look into how would the purchase benefit family and myself during the blizzard.
It will save your life and others.

Becker BK16 or Ontario TAK1.

Best option would be Mora Bushcraft Black and pocket the extra cash for a rainy day.

For weather like that, I'd recommend something made by Cold Steel.
Hopefully, it will be a quick cleanup and everyone will go back to work.
Much luckier than the folks in Buffalo some time ago...

Good thinking.. COLD Steel for a BLIZZARD.

By the way, it's bad in Buffalo every winter!

Original DPx HEST fixed blade by Rowen. Most useful $100 carry out there.

I have to admit the D'Eskabar is looking pretty good too for the money.

I would second the Ontario TAK 1 . Great knife designed by the ESEE guys before they split with Ontario Knives and it has a much nicer handle than the ESEE 4 .

The DPx HEST that was mentioned is also a handy knife that has the ROWEN heat treat and they do 1095 very well .

Ontario RTAK II; a biggun, but good for SHTF scenarios; it's the second knife down in this pic:

The good thing is it's big enough you could always use it as a paddle if you get stuck up poop creek... ;):D:thumbup:

Good luck with your search!

ESEE makes my favorite fixed blades right now. I have an ESEE-4 and an ESEE-6 and they're great. The 4 is much more practical for hiking at just a little over 7oz.

Agreed on EESE... you should check out the Izula- super light and will handle all of your needs on a hike
