Would SOG's Twitch knives be considered illegal? Not just would they be illegal technically but would I be asking for trouble if I carried one? In NYC I presume some LEO's would have problems with them since it seems they have problems with most knives, but how about in Weschester and the surrounding areas. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I think NYC would bust you for carrying a SAK these days.

I doubt anyone in Westchester cares what you're carrying as long as you look civilized and don't wave it around. Assisted openers aren't illegal there, although every LEO might not know it.

Thats what i thought. Most of my time is spent is Weschester so I guess I'll retire it when I'm hanging out in the city.

I don't get up to Westchester much these days. I went to high school in Ardsley but that was a long long time ago.

I'm pretty sure he was kidding, as was I. Its seems like thats perfectly legal, but it seems that NYC cops view anything pointy as a weapon, that why I leave my pencils unsharpened;). All kidding aside the knife you carry is legal, just avoid cops, legal or not they may hassle you.

You really could get arrested for carrying that knife, if you were carrying it openly. Drop it into your pocket, don't carry it in a belt pouch, or you could be hauled in as others have been.

The police can afford to lose the case, of course. They go home at the end of the shift, or earn overtime. You go through the system because of their mistake.

Days later and hundreds of dollars poorer and you might be vindicated -- but not reimbursed.

It can't be flicked open and it doesn't look too threatening. Would NYC cops really see it as a "weapon"?

I have an Outrider, which is very similar to Alpineer, and uses the same lock-up mechanism. The backspring makes flipping it very difficult. With a lot of effort, I was able to eventually flip the handle open. It required a very clumsy, almost retard looking under to overhand motion that resulted in a 1cm long laceration on my index finger, but it was doable.

As an aside, flipping a one hand trekker open is also very easy.

I tried to flip the Alpineer open the same way and it didn't work. Probably because it's still in mint condition.
