I posted this two days ago in the last NY thread....interesting case. The NYPD rarely holds law suit pay outs against an officer. They often pay off just to avoid a civil trail, so the police union ( PBA) will say the officer was not found to be liable, the city just settled to avoid the costs of a trail...The way things work often have no relationship to the way they should work......

From reading the article it sounds like Benchmade Axis knives like the Griptilian would be illegal. Must suck to live in NYC.

I wouldn't live in NYC if they threw out all knife laws.

AF the blade on this model knife is light crappy steel. If the pin is tight, then it can be hard to flick open from the closed position. Another example of the same model may flip open easily. That is the main issue with the KnifeRights law suit, it is impossible to know if the person testing it will be able to flick it open. A new one may not flick open, but after some use and carry it now may well be flickable.....Some people can't flick open the exact same one others can....

Aside from the insanity of a "gravity knife" law, I'm glad this turned out alright for the guy.

My father has this very same POS in his deck drawer at work. Its quite difficult to open, so I don't see where it could be a gravity knife, unless you loosened the pivot to fall out level.

Same man, I've had the same knife for almost 10 years now it was less then 5bux, if I can recall correctly it is a Ruko. It definitely does NOT open on its own. Just rediculous, weren't the Boston riots over a made up charge that ended in a death on a completely legal knife?

YES! Total junk, a flea market knife. Mine was also under $5.

Another reason never to even visit New York! I am glad they finally cleared him.
Edit to add: I mean because of the knife laws and options in general in the city, NOT because of the police. A few bad officers does change my opinion of law enforcement in general.
