NYC transit workers declare strike

sounds like y'all are in for a tough time. I wonder how this will affect the Christmas retail sales....good luck...

I heard some wonk on the radio this morning saying it will cost hundreds of millions per day in retail losses.

I feel like taking the TWU and MTA leaders and bashing their heads together, and hopefully getting something through. This is going to be a huge mess, and it will be near impossible to get around in the city.

Great time for me to be starting a new job in the city, hopefully this will all be done with by the time I start. Otherwise my best looking option is to drive into Jersey to take a NJ Transit bus into Port Authority and walking a few blocks.

If they tried that strike crap around here, a bunch of redneck loggers would take over the bus-system and give out free rides.:D.

I hope it ends quickly for you New Yorkers...You-all have enough problems already for a transit strike to mess it up even more.

Strikes certainly suck for those whom are affected(in this case, a pile of people), and I would hope it wasn't illegal as previously stated. But hey, strikes don't just happen for no reason and I hope the pressure is now on for proper bargaining if in fact the strike is legal.

The strike was illegal. The union was fined something like $1,000,000 a day, and the workers lost two days pay for every day the didn't work.

Hopefully that is done with though and everything should be back to normal come morning.

I HAD sympathy for the workers and felt that they deserved a decent contract. Striking and causing such a mess for so many people, costing individuals a lot of extra money, and time has really made me lose much of that.

Union chief Roger Toussaint announces the return to work.
The executive board representing more than 30,000 New York transit employees voted Thursday to return to work while contract negotiations continue with the Metropolitan Transit Authority. Union chief Roger Toussaint said members would return to work immediately but it is not clear how soon trains and buses will be moving again, or what services will be running for tonight's commute.
