NYCers: do you carry a fixed blade in your EDC bag?

In NYC quite a bit on business and just wondering if anyone carries an under 4" fixed blade in their EDC bags? I'm always paranoid about getting stuck underground as happened to me during the good old 2003 blackout. The knife I'm considering is my Rat RC-3mil - excellent size/weight, glass breaker and can pry if needed.

I would never whip it out to open a box or peel an apple (I carry an Emerson folder on me) so this would just be for those SHTF situations that I hope never happen.

I am aware of the knife laws and it seems that this should be legal as it is concealed, under 4" and obviously not a "gravity" knife. I know in the end its up to the specific LEO to decide, but...

Anybody else carry like this? What do you guys think?

Thanks.

Sounds like a good choice. Just keep it out of sight. Rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6...

Great choice

My knowledge of NYC knife laws is somewhat limited, but I do know this-- carrying an Emerson, or any other folder that can be opened one handed, is akin to carrying a gravity knife. Also, clipping a folder will get you in trouble, and I assume you'd do that with an Emerson (wave.)

I believe Jim is correct.

The Emerson actually has been checked by LEO before (in my bag during a bag check) a number of times and has never been an issue - it is the smaller mini cqc7. Although I agree that if the officer wanted to, he could have taken it. I never keep it clipped to my pocket as even the clip being visible is trouble - I've actually been stopped before over my flashlight clip in my front pocket.

I live in NYC and on weekends carry a fixed balde in the 3 " range. While I have never had an issue, I think it really depends upon the LEO.

I also carry a Tom Watson Hump modes also in 3" blade, with a low profile clip. Again I have never had an issue.

But NYC cops espically the rookies can sometimes have attitudes due to lack of expirence and knowledge and the fact that some people do not show them respect

I have always treated them with respect and have not had any issues.

It would not hurt to have a copy of the NYC knife laws with yopu from the internet.
