From Steve D'lack.....

NYCKS show producer Fifty Fifty Productions would like to commit $1,000 to the American Red Cross Hurricane Sandy relief and recovery efforts. Our knifemakers are also banding together for victims of the storm by donating knives for a silent auction, of which all of the proceeds will also go to benefit the American Red Cross. Our goal is to raise $10,000 for the American Red Cross efforts, with your help we can reach and even surpass that goal.

So far, Donations and knives from knifemakers Rick Hinderer, Todd Begg, Anthony Marfione, Mick Strider, and from dealers Tommy Clark of Blue Ridge Knives, Paul Farina, Gary Levine, Derrick Obatake of Steel Flame, and Neil Ostroff of True North Knives. Auctions will be held at the NYCKS show on both Friday, November 16th and Saturday, November 17th. The highest bidder of each item will be announced the winner at the end of each day.

We encourage you to come to the show to support the recovery of the local community and to bid on the silent auction knives for the American Red Cross. In this time of need we must remember to come together as a team to help our neighbors and rebuild our communities.

We would also like to send a special thank you to the Westin Jersey City Newport for their continued hard work and effort. The hotel and staff are looking forward to the show and are in full support of our efforts to rebuild and bring life back to the economy in the area.

Any and all donations will be accepted and are encouraged.

Thank you all for your support in bringing our knife community together to help the victims of the storm.

Rob - Can we bid for a knife on BF for the same cause? Just an idea. I would be happy to put a sealed bid up.

I second this. This would give a lot of us to buy direct and to help out a good cause.

The goal very likely will not only be reached but surpassed.

Another example of the good guys doing the right thing.

Before too many ask for the ability post bids via BF, please understand that items for auctions like this will far exceed MSRP pricing.

Steve mentioned to me yesterday that he was looking at ways to include the online community. If I see that he was able to make it happen, I will post the details here.

Perhaps it's an e-mail thing for silent auction submissions.

Then perhaps donations could be paypaled or a text-to-give deal may be organized with a phone company.

Great ideas here. My wife and I are finally back online after 11 days without power. We will see you at the show, and will definitely participate in the auctions.

I just visited their Web site. It looks like they want to help raise money for the Red Cross to assist people in the area. So, it's easier to donate thru existing channels than set up a new "donation by text thing" like I suggested a couple posts above.

Thank you to anyone and everyone doing anything to help and assist those in need.
