How about you?

In the middle picture, on the right, it looks like a snakeskin wallet.

I'd say a Stingray wallet

yes I got a small rayskin ID credit card wallet there too!

nice pics- but it shows how beat the affair was..

i still say the show needs to be moved back!

wish I would have seen you guys, I would have introduced myself!

Back to the Sheraton or the Crowne Plaza.
The Pennsylvania and Park Central hotels just don't have one big ballroom to do the show justice.

Yes it is stingray. I should've got a business card from the vendor.
He is the nicest fellow. He'll shoot the breeze with you and if you want to buy something fine, if not "Hey there's another show next week"

It was hot in there, and as someone pionted out to me,that the lighting wasn't right for showing the knives.

Word around the campfire from multiple and unrelated sources is that this show is dying a slow, slow death.

That is a freakkin' shame, I'll tell ya, 'cause I broke my cherry at that show in 1986, at the ripe old age of 19, and it was a winner!

I met Jim Kelso, Dan Maragni, Chuck Stewart, Pat Crawford, Larry Page, Russell Easler, Al Polkowski, Ron Gaston, Mike Zscherny, Michael Reape, Barb Cricchio(sp?), Jim Schmidt. Jack Feder......all for the first time at the show.

Most of you might not know it, but the New York Custom Knife show was the crucible that the Ashokan gathering of the New England Bladesmith's Guild began to get formed in. Jimmy Fikes, Don Fogg, Dan Maragni, Louis Mills and the late, great Jim Schmidt were all table holders at one point or another at the Custom knife show, and this is back in the day when it was held at the Roosevelt Hotel, certainly not a super place to go, but it sounds better than the current venue.

Looks like the winner is ECCKS in March, and that is historically speaking, a bummer.

Best Regards,

Nice Tomes folder.

I've heard the same thing about this show not doing well. Too bad, we need all the knife shows we can get.

Who makes the wallets? I like the look of it.

Infinity makes them

I dont have a link or business card..

Yeah, the show is dying....other venues would be more appropriate

:(

The first NYCKS I went to was in November of 02, I forget which hotel but they had to split it into 2 rooms. While that confused me and a few others in that we almost missed the second room, I thought it was a very large show with alot of people. The ECCKS show in March was smaller, and usually held at a different hotel, though it probably had a higher ratio of "big" name makers. In the succeeding years up to now, I noticed that the November show was getting smaller and smaller.

This past March the ECCKS was held in the very same place that this November show was in. For the first time I noticed that the March show was bigger than the November show. Maybe people from March hated the show's venue so much they decided not to return for the November one, or word got spread about the terrible space. I dunno. But one thing for sure was that this was the worst of the November/March NY knife shows that I've been to since I've been attending them in March of '02.

Bought a Rayskin wallet at that show 2 years ago and carry it every day. Still shows no sign of wear. Tough stuff!

I believe Adam Drescher at adamunlimited.com sold the rayskin stuff there.

I was there more or less as a civilian and I must agree that that it was a slow, slow show. It seems as though by early Saturday afternoon, rigor mortis had set in. Very little of what I saw commanded my interest, but I believe there were some bargins to be had.

While I didn't talke to every knifemaker there, the ones I asked said that they were doing well. One or two said better than they thought they would.
Russ Easler's table was down by half his stock (by my eye) in the first 2 hours on Friday.
If you were there Saturday, alot of the good and affordable wares were gone.
Remember the Guild members get in an hour early too.

I agree with the comments about the poor lighting and crummy space.
I did my best to buy what I could afford to keep the vendors coming back ;)

I went to the show as an atendee and not a table holder...because its just to dang expensive! For the prices of those tables that show should be in a better place! The room has NO flow and the lighting sucks! Matter of fact I was standing at a table next to one of the support poles and a light that was taped to the wall fell and hit the floor. I asked if it was the makers light ...he said no the hotel put it there! Held on with masking tape!

The highlight for me was checking out J.D's master dagger....thanks for showing me JD.

I ended up getting stranded for a while in the city as the train lines where down in Stamford. Didn't walk in the door till about 2:30am. Was a long day, but still fun.

I've talked to a couple of makers and several dealers that were there and everyone of them said they had a great show. Most of the dealers did very well but it was all done on Friday, Cliff parker sold out early Friday and said the room was packed Friday but Sat was slow and Sun was dead. ( I didn't attend this year)

I did the last two Nov. NYC shows and didn't do too good but did great at the March show(ECCKS).

The march show 05 was in this location (in the basment) and the room sucked, I had a good show though. Next year the ECCKS is back at the Crown Plaza:D in Feb, I'm lookin forward to it.

Great Tomes folder, I have one in stag. Hard to beat for the money.
