I am having one hell of a time trying to find ANY kind of nylon cord in .5 to 2mm range. I can find cotton and polyester all day, but nylon is very elusive.
So that you know, I need this for lanyards, fobs, and just plain handle wrapping.
Thanks, guys.

Christian-
do you mean 550 cord like para-cord or do you want a flat-braid?

A small diameter 1mm approx cord like what you described is available from your local builders supply. It is a braided nylon (usually white) used by masons to string referance lines when laying brick or block.

If nothing else the package will give the name of the manufacturer to contact to see if it is available in different colours.

I love mason's cord for wrapping handles! I throw continuous half hitches so the knots make a spiral pattern that improves grip. Any hardware store should have it, probably in more than one size and style. I have both twisted and braided, both white nylon.

I've had good results painting it with poster paint after wrapping. Mason's cord seems to be only available in bright florescent colors (besides white). If you want radioactive pink or orange you can buy it, but not black.

I've also seen similar sized nylon cord in olive drab at an army surplus store.

Sorry guys, guess I guess I shoulda put in "not looking for para cord". Thanks to an Army buddy, I've got all I need.
Specificaly, I am looking for braided, smaller-than-para-cord, but-larger-than-thread, *round*, black or OD nylon cord.
I mean, I've seen and owned objects (cutsey necklaces from Ren-faires and such) that use it, so it must exist, right?
Well, I will never give up- its out there, somewhere; the trick is finding it.

Christian -

I get my lanyard materials at my local outdoor/climbing equipment stores. They usually have a wide variety of diameters in several colors.

Hope this helps.

Go to the local BIG fishing supply place and buy the largest diameter Spyderwire they have. It's even OD green!!! I have been toying with the idea of wrapping a knife in it, but it is TOO expensive! I carry 40lb and 60lb test Spyderwire in my 3 day pack. It's great for emergency sewing, snares, lashing equipment together. My cousin braided some and improvised a "survival bow." (He used larger than 60lb test though.)

Christian-
I found some at a gun show from a military surplus dealer hope this helps
