Nylon Scales: 91mm vs 84mm vs 111mm

Hi guys!

I was thinking of getting a 91mm (either Spartan, Tinker or Huntsman) or an 84mm (Tinker small or Tourist) Victorinox as a knife I'd use everyday, and I was thinking of getting the ones in the Economy line, the ones with the nylon scales (it would be better for everyday use and abuse I think... I love carving things).

My question is, is the scale material on the nylon 91mm or 84mm Vics the same as the material on the 111mm Vics, (Hercules, Hunter, Rucksack, ect) or are they different? The thing is, I kinda like the nylon ones on the 111mm.

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure it's the same stuff on my Waiter and Alpineer, but in pictures I've seen of economy models it looks shinier. It may not be the same type of nylon.

yes, they are the same durable material... i'm a big fan of nylon handle in hard use... the down side is the logo easily worn out..

Iyonk, do you know if the economy SAKs have a textured matte finish like the 111mm knives, or are they smooth?

I have an economy Tinker and the nylon is the same. But they are hard to find and I don't think all models are available in nylon scales.

I have a Bantam and a Waiter in nylon. I think I was lucky to find them. So far, I like nylon better than Celidor, because it's not as slick, and it doesn't get scratched as easily.

Hmmmm..... This is strange. The shield on my Bantam is inlaid, like on the Cellidors, but the shields on the Waiter and Alpineer are painted on.

yes, the economy SAKs nylon scales got the same textured like the 111mm nylon scales.
none of the 84mm nor 91mm economy nylon scales got metal inlay shield logo AFAIK.

i wish they made the nylon color in many more variant... they're available in red, blue black and white... i only got them in red and a sportsman in white.
they would be great in bright orange, lime green, light blue, bright yellow like the florist series.

The material of the scales is the same, however, the printed logo will wear out faster on the 84 and 91mm models than it will on the 111mm.

Don't know exactly why, though.

Regarding the printed logo on the 91mm nylon scales, when it fades away, does it leave a depression on the scales in the shape of the logo? Or is it really just printed on, therefore when the paint fades, it leaves nothing?

Thanks.
