In n.c. If I have let's say a folder in a nylon sheath in public, and the sheath is very visible on my belt, is this considered concealed because no part of the knife is showing at all?

Does the sheath cover the entire knife including the handle? Or just the blade? There is legal precedent that a sheath covering the blade, but entire knife/sheath combo is worn outside the clothing and completely visible, does not count as concealed. The courts reason that the object is easily recognizable as a knife, and that counting the sheath covering the blade as a concealment would border on ludicrous as it would render it nearly impossible to carry a fixed blade in the course of lawful work and recreation.

If however the nylon sheath covers the entire knife handle and all, and the sheath itself obscures the shape of the knife so that it is no longer recognizable by your average joe or jane (such as being a just a large rectangular case) then it is concealed.

It has to be somewhat obvious to other people that you're carrying a weapon. Any attempt to hide what you are carrying from others is concealment.

I have one minor correction to make as I just noticed you said "folder" in your original post. In NC, it is legal to conceal folders. My answer was about sheath knives.

That said, the knife you want is no folder. It's a switchblade and therefore is not legal to be concealed, so my original statement still applies.

Looking at that holster, I would call that concealed. It's just a rectangle with no really way to tell what's in it. Now if you had a molded kydex sheath that only covered the lower half and a person could tell it was a knife, that might pass.

Thanks a bunch, makes sense, I'll probably keep the pro tech home, on my property, use the delica 4 for edc.
